Born in High Point, NC, he was an accomplished architect, graduating from NC State University School of Design in 1966 and receiving his license to practice architecture in 1967. He opened his practice in Waynesville, NC, and moved to Raleigh in 1976. Bill designed numerous schools, churches, office buildings, shopping centers, and residential projects across the state from Franklin, NC to the Outer Banks. He was one of the first architects in NC to receive LEED Accreditation (green design) and was dedicated to producing sustainable buildings. He mentored many ‘budding’ architects over the years, sharing his knowledge and skills of the industry at his firm, Doggett Architects.\nBill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Harriette Hartline Doggett. They married in May of 1977 at Franklin Presbyterian Church, one of the many churches he designed. He was a devoted and loving husband, who, even in his last days with Alzheimer’s, greeted Harriette with, “Hey, beautiful,” each morning.\nBill is also survived by his three children: daughter Laura Doggett Stowers (Mark) and their four children, Mayson, Luke (Sarah), Claire and John Mark; daughter Christy Doggett Pitts and her two children, Ford and Caroline; and son Chad Wesley Doggett (Catherine) and their two boys, Tate and JR (James Ruston). Luke and Sarah gifted Bill with his first great-grandchild, Maeve, last August.\nBill was preceded in death by his mother, Nannie Tate Doggett Noland, who loved him dearly, and his father, Joseph Granville Doggett, whom Bill remembered as a devoted dad who worked hard and provided for his family. Following his parents’ teachings, Bill instilled these same principles in his own family, by loving them well and working hard, often long hours to provide a good life for them, resulting in many memories filled with fun, family times together. Bill modeled the perseverance necessary to achieve your dreams, and supported each member of his family with time and encouragement so they could accomplish their own.\nBill was a quiet man, with a dry, quick wit. He loved gardening and spent many early morning hours tending to his vegetable garden at his former residence, lovingly referred to as ‘Doggett Farms’. His tomatoes were the envy of the neighborhood and his productive crops provided Harriette many hours of canning. He also enjoyed photography, boating, fishing, listening to jazz, Bill Withers, Al Green, and traveling with dear friends that were also a part of his life.\nA memorial service for Bill will be held on Friday, February 21st, at 3 p.m. at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh, NC, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Transitions Life Care of Wake County, https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/ who helped care for Bill in his final days, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Wake County https://www.alz.org/?form=FUNDHYMMBXU . The family would also like to thank his two caregivers, Haddy and Binta, who so kindly and sweetly assisted in his care over the past year."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"02/10/2025","age":85,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/658594f31901a42903ed859a378221ac/object_Object_349bf2351a.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"932c5b56-7a0f-5d12-865d-7ddad26e575d","slug":"2025-02-10-Pamela-Goulding","name":"Pamela Goulding","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Clayton","county":"Johnston","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"02/10/2025","age":68,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"2c18b45f-1520-54f7-89c6-0d3ea9bd3f63","slug":"article-593","name":"Heather Duke","content":{"data":{"content":"Honoring a Beautiful Life\n\nA celebration of life will be held for Heather Duke on March 14, 2025 from 4:00-7:00PM at 116 Douglas Drive, Creedmoor, NC 27522. \n\nFamily and friends will gather to share memories, laughter, and love in honor of the beautiful person she was.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. \nhttps://www.goldenrescuenc.org"}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"02/10/2025","age":59,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/37aabfafd03126c27eb5012db4523553/Heather_Duke_cd05be54c5.jpg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"057b8a38-5989-514b-af88-96085c5693f4","slug":"2025-02-10-Jeffrey-Bruhjell","name":"Jeffrey Bruhjell","content":{"data":{"content":"Jeffrey Roy Bruhjell, 70, of Smithfield, NC, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025. Judy was born to Howard and Irene Herrington in Hattiesburg, MS on January 9th, 1954. She was the 6th of 7 children, and the apple of her father’s eye. She is predeceased by her parents Howard and Irene, her siblings Trixie Perkins, Betty Rose Henderson, and Sam Herrington, and her husband J. Robert McKissick. She leaves behind her daughters, Jennifer Janise Tedesco (husband John) and Shannon Zaffino (husband Jeff). She is also survived by her brothers Allen, Billy and Jerry Herrington. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren – Kirby, Addison, Ransom, Gabriel (wife Emma), Evie and Madison, and 4 great grandchildren, Ellie, James, John-Luke and Clayson. She also leaves behind too many friends to name, friends who were just as much family as the people she was biologically related to.\n\nJudy attended Sumrall High School, then later moved to Houston, Texas. In Houston, she continued her education, studying photography. She later unapologetically stole half of the garage to build a dark room where she processed and developed her own photos. She won multiple awards with her landscape photography. As commonly happens with those who like to be behind the camera, we don’t have nearly enough photos of Judy herself. However, browsing through her favorite photos was like a tour through her mind – observing with her what she found beautiful – the Scottish Highlands, colorful buildings in San Miguel de Allende, and old churches amid cities, surrounded by skyscrapers.\n\nJudy’s greatest love in life was her dogs. She and her late husband Bob became enamored with Asta, a Lakeland terrier featured in The Thin Man movies, and she sought one out of her own. This was the beginning of a 37-year long love affair with the breed. She bred, groomed and showed Lakeland terriers for 36 years, finishing many champions. She was a founding member and served as President of the Houston Area Terrier club. She also served as President of the US Lakeland Terrier club. Her ”dog community” became her extended family and was how she met her closest friends. She leaves behind her Lakelands Tammy and Sabrina.\n\nJudy was also well known for her sense of humor, her love of football (Go Texans!) and her fiery disposition. It defies the laws of nature how so much personality and chutzpa got stuffed into her tiny 5 foot tall, 100lb frame. We will forever miss her laugh, how she fought for us, and how intensely she loved us. We will forever miss her cheering us on loudly every time one of us had a hard road ahead. Though we won’t walk that road with her by our sides any longer, we walk it knowing that she is a huge part of all of us still. We will walk that road and be fierce for others who can’t fight for themselves as she did. We will be accepting of strays – canine and human alike – and treat them as family, as she taught us. We will laugh loudly, often, and with others, as she showed us. We will photograph whatever we find inspiring and hang those photos next to hers in an effort to beautify a world that lost a work of art when she exhaled for the last time."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Johnston","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"02/09/2025","age":71,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/9ddb5bd32bc9e6ea723b4c58a8506a5d/object_Object_27dbff1ceb.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"7597e102-42dc-5493-ba12-a5af213e000a","slug":"2025-02-09-Steven-Macaluso","name":"Steven Andrew Macaluso","content":{"data":{"content":"With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steven Macaluso,a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished member of our family, who passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 at the age of 66 after a courageous battle with cancer.
