Lynn was born in Jamestown, NY and was a lifelong resident of the area. He leaves behind his son Aric Way (wife Laura, and child Nolan), and daughter Ambryann Way (children Trent, Tegun, Tiahna, Talaya, Thena). He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Way, mother, Geraldine Giebner Way, and sister, Linda Destro.\n\nLynn attended Southwestern High School through his junior year and graduated from Panama High School where he excelled in track and gymnastics; he was one of few who could hold an iron cross. During that time Lynn met a lifelong friend that he considered a brother, Dan Barry, and through the years they shared many adventures. He was later drafted into the United States Army where he served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. As he was a kid at heart, Lynn never really did know what he wanted to do when he grew up, so he tried many different careers ranging from tool & die, to private pilot, surveying, and a general manager at a motel.\n\nBeing a bachelor for much of his life, Lynn was a particular sort. He enjoyed anything outdoors (as long as it was not in the sun), traveling (as long as he didn’t get motion sickness), teaching and playing bridge, riding ATV’s with friends, hunting out west, woodworking, fellowship fires and breakfasts, and he always had a home project going on. He loved ginger ale (without ice of course), sweets of all kinds, flashlights, flannel shirts, and was an avid reader. He loved to surprise people with a late-night call whose only purpose was telling a joke; the Porky Pig one was his favorite to spring on an unsuspecting stranger. One can only imagine that upon his earthly departure his last words were those of the Road Runner before he’d run off, Beep! Beep! Fortunately, his family supplied him with plenty of last-minute Dad jokes to have on the ready upon entering into the presence of the Lord.\n\nThe family would like to thank his caregivers at WakeMed Raleigh and SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, which although brief, showed incredible care, compassion, and empathy.\n\nFriends and family are welcomed to attend a Celebration of Life gathering, Saturday April 19th, 2:00-5:00pm, at the Ashville United Methodist Church, 2180 N Maple Ave, Ashville, NY 14710. Please bring a favorite Lynn story or joke to share!\n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ashville Free Library, 2200 N. Growing up in the Midwest and coming of age during World War II instilled in her a deep love of family, country and God. A move to Mobile, Alabama with her parents after graduation introduced her to both the working world and to a handsome young college instructor named Don Hurlbert who worked in her building. \n Their marriage on March 30, 1951 was the beginning of a wonderful life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, living in a half dozen cities around the country and raising six children: Don III, David, Doug, Michael, Deborah and Dina.\n She often said Charlotte, North Carolina was her favorite, having made long-lasting friendships there. But her greatest joys were her children. She followed them closely through every grade to college graduation; served as their chauffeur, counselor, cook extraordinaire, cheerleader and confidante; and made each of them feel as if they were the most important person in the world. \n She loved long phone chats, large family get-togethers, especially at Christmas, and big vacations along ocean beaches. Her large collection of old greeting cards and photographs from many years allowed her to relive happy celebrations, and each year she added another tiny figure to her growing village of Hummels. She had a special love for babies and little children, but especially her own grandchildren: Kacy, Erin, Adelaide, Caroline, Anna, Jack, Avery, Ryan, Alex, Jenna and great grandchild Addie. She said that the years she spent helping in the care of her grandbabies, one by one, as they were born, were the happiest times of her life.\n She was talkative but soft-spoken; quietly proud of her family but also a fierce defender when she needed to be; a lover of fashion but always unassuming and modest. She saw the best in everyone and taught her children to do good, reach for the stars and always treat people fairly and without prejudice. She was the wisest, most caring friend of her expanding family and host of friends ever had. \n In her later years, even after arthritis and sciatica limited her mobility, she retained the personality we all knew and loved--a warm smile, twinkling in her eyes, always shedding a tear after we visited, knowing it might be weeks or months before she would see us again. Above all, she loved her husband, Don. Their lifetime of adventures and devotion to each other -- three days short of their 74th anniversary-- was a model for all of us. \n On the evening of December 17,1950, while young people presented the church service, she accepted Christ following Don’s sermon. She always said it was the hallmark of her Christian Life.\n With Don by her bedside, Barbara joined Christ’s Kingdom peacefully during the early morning of March 27, 2025. She awaits her ever widening family circle and--all those who love her Lord-- to join her.\n \n \n"}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"03/27/2025","age":95,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/a82a68e2f37cf943dcf9320b7522d137/Hulburt_3013326762.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"42245e44-e4fb-5fc6-b505-addd44e9117b","slug":"2025-03-27-Karen-Anderson","name":"Karen Kim Anderson","content":{"data":{"content":"Karen Kim Anderson, born Karen Kim Miner, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 59. Though her passing was sudden, the peaceful nature of her departure brings comfort to her family and friends.\n\nBorn on September 26, 1965, in Springfield, Vermont to Bonnie Gale (Anderson) and Earl Denison Miner Sr., Kim was the youngest of three siblings. After tragically losing her mother at the age of one, she and her siblings were raised alongside their 5 aunts and uncles by their maternal grandparents, Robert and Margery Anderson.\n\nWhen she was only 18, she traveled from Vermont to Austin, Texas, with her Uncle Cliff. Texas became her new home - where she had two wonderful children, Joshua and Bonnie, whom she adored until the very end.\n\nKim was generous, compassionate, articulate, dedicated, and hard-working. She organized a shoe drive out of her living room and delivered warm home cooked meals to people that were unhoused. She was very active and fundamental to the expansion of her local Buy Nothing Project group and served as an admin in various neighboring groups. She helped many and developed lasting friendships through her networking. In her free time, she served as a Voter Deputy Registrar for Travis and Williamson Counties.\n\nHer talents included sewing beautiful garments and event coordination. She was extremely organized in her personal and work life. She worked as an executive assistant for many years and then found great joy in caring for the elderly and pet sitting. She took with her a soul that radiated joy, gratitude, and unwavering faith. Sepi lived to make a difference, always striving to leave things better than she found them. She carried herself with a grace and determination that made anything feel possible. Her sheer presence brightened any room, blanketing it with warmth that welcomed everyone in—a warmth that belonged uniquely to her. Sepi accomplished so much throughout her life. If she were here writing this today, we know she’d wish for her greatest legacy to be this: “Love is the truth of it all. Everything I did, I did in love.”\n\nSepi was love. She is love. And she will remain love forever more.\n\nSepi (deh), which means \"dawn\" in Farsi, feels like the perfect foreshadowing for the woman who would come to believe (and know) that every day brings with it new opportunities, hopes, promises, and dreams. At age 15, Sepi left her home country of Iran for the opportunity of a new life across the world: Raleigh, NC. Shortly after, a revolution erupted in her homeland.\n\nSepi chose optimism as her only answer. She doubled down.\n\n“I must feel how I want my life to be. I must understand that there’s nobody who can control my life but me. The choice is mine.”\n\nSepi was a trailblazer, and a natural-born leader. Graduating from NC State University with degrees in Civil & Agricultural Engineering, she went on to found SEPI Engineering and Construction in 2001. True to Sepi’s vision, the company held firm to its core values, ultimately becoming one of the top 500 private engineering firms in the country. Sepi’s professional awards and accolades are numerous; however, the “work” she loved most was fiercely advocating for women’s equality in the workplace. She drew upon her own life experiences to inspire and support others. Sepi brought her full, vibrant self to every relationship. She didn’t hold back. In 2022, Sepi was inducted into the NC Women Business Owners Hall of Fame.\n\nFor all that Sepi experienced in her lifetime—the countries, the colors, the connections—her favorite place was quite simple: home. Nothing made her happier or more fulfilled than being Nakisa and Bardia’s mother. She knew their strengths, weaknesses, and every tiny detail in between. When things were great, Sepi was their biggest fan. When the world felt heavy, she was their first phone call—a one-of-a-kind refuge, filled with abundant healing and comfort. Sepi adored her children, and who they became. She never missed a chance to tell you that. Following Sepi’s diagnosis, Nakisa and Bardia showered their mom with the same love she poured into them all along: an unconditional, \"whatever it takes, we’re in this together\" type of love. A love that stands the test of time and dimension.\n\nSepi never gave up. She intentionally grounded herself in her spiritual practices every day—prayers of gratitude, meditation, and uplifting affirmations. Not coincidentally, her spirit remained as alive as ever. Sepi was deeply thankful for the amazing people who stayed by her side through it all: her family, her friends, and her medical team.\n\nThroughout Sepi’s life—no matter the circumstances—faith and optimism were the things that kept her well. In the words of Rumi, one of Sepi’s favorite Persian poets:\n\n“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.”—Rumi.\n\nSepi’s legacy powerfully lives on through her children and their families Nakisa Asefnia, Bardia Asefnia (Carter Crew); her siblings Sofey Saidi and Taher Saidi and countless friends, colleagues and confidants.\n\nOur hearts are broken, yet we know our beautiful Sepi Saidi is on her biggest adventure yet—soaring freely with the angels, watching over and cheering us on.\n------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\nWe would love for you to join our family at Sepi’s “Celebration of Life”:\nTime: Saturday, April 5, 2025: Please join anytime between 2:00 – 5:00 PM. \nLocation: Aria Center – 2609 North Duke Street; Suite 700.
