She is survived by her son Jared Delfft, daughter in law Ammara Haq-Delfft, grandchildren Adeline and Grayson, mother Brenda Lewis, sister Darla Johnson, and brother Frank Lewis.\n\nThose who knew her spoke fondly of her kindness, her selflessness, and her passionate love and pride for her grandchildren. After many years struggling with addiction and depression, she worked hard to build a life for herself that she could be proud of, and that would give her more time with her family. Cindy was an avid lover of fantasy fiction, watching cooking shows, and channeled her energy to countless arts and crafts projects she could share with others. She was also a skilled florist who made many beautiful arrangements over the years that will not be forgotten. Above all, she cherished playing with her grandkids and witnessing their joy in all they did.\n\nIn more recent years, Cynthia’s struggles with addiction sadly resurfaced, ultimately claiming her from her family and friends. She found solace in her faith in Christ our Lord during the most challenging times of her life and now joins her Savior in heaven. \n\nNo formal services will be held, but a family gathering to remember and honor her life will take place in the coming weeks.\n\nShe was loved and will be missed by so many. Born on May 23, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, Fran’s life was one of love, devotion, and unwavering strength.\n\nFran was the cherished wife of Albert Passaretti Jr. for 55 years. Together, they created a beautiful life, beginning in Brooklyn, then moving to Staten Island, NY, and finally retiring to Clayton, NC in 2013, which they called the best move of their lives. “Forever Lovers,” their love story was built on a foundation of trust, respect, shared laughter, and countless memories and will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.\n\nFran was the absolute best mother and role model one could ever ask for. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, Lisa Bland and Albert III, always providing them with love, guidance, and support, famously asking, “What have you got to report?” when sitting down for a chat. She immediately embraced her son-in-law, Teddy and daughter-in-law, Christina, into the family and treated them as her own. Her greatest joy in life was her role as a grandmother. Fran’s grandchildren—Nicholas, Thomas, Natalie, Albert IV, and Christal—were the lights of her life. As their Nana, she created a world of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love, filling each moment with laughter, joy, and cherished memories. She never failed to tell each of them that she loved them to the moon and back. Her heart was always full when surrounded by her family, and she passed down traditions that will live on for generations to come.\n\nFran worked for over 15 years as a clerk at New York Public Library, which she called the perfect job as she loved to read. She passed on her love of books to her children. She also enjoyed traveling near and far with her husband and family (especially cruises), visiting the beach, playing Bunco with her neighborhood bunco groups, attending shows and concerts, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends. \n\nFran was a second mom, a second nana, a caring aunt, a dear cousin, and a faithful friend to so many. Her home was always open to everyone, her door always welcoming; she was always up for a party. Her spirit of giving and kindness touched everyone she encountered, and her legacy will be carried on by all who were lucky enough to know her. She found immense joy in the small moments—whether it was her weekly Sunday dinners that brought her family together, the game nights filled with laughter, or the sleepovers with her grandkids that were filled with stories, Hershey’s Kisses, snuggles, and love.\n\nFran's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. She had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel special, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to call her a part of their lives. Her warmth, her selflessness, and her unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all.\n\nFran was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Maria Madorma, and her brother, Vincent Madorma. \n\nA funeral mass will be held at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 4057 US-70 Business Highway West, Clayton, on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 3:00 PM. Born in February, 1947 in Riverside California to the late John and Mary Louise Brown, she graduated from UC Santa Cruz and attained her Masters Degree from the University of Washington. She traveled extensively throughout South America, North America and Europe during her lifetime for both work and pleasure. This led to many memorable stories that she gleefully enjoyed sharing - and embellishing - to her grandchildren at opportune moments. \n\nClaire was an avid reader, delighting in cozy mysteries. This spilled over into her love of puzzle solving, including jigsaws, math puzzles and her daily domination of the family at Wordle. In retirement, she filled the middle of her weeks with tap and line dance where she mostly turned the correct direction, and ended her weeks with her favorite badminton group, considering it a good match if she hit a perfect winning shot without having to bend over too much. \n\nShe will be lovingly remembered as relishing her coffee and lunch dates with friends and family, adventurous hikes with her grandchildren, her vast knowledge of flora and fauna, adoration for dancing of any kind, the beautiful quilts that she created, her love of sunrise shark tooth hunting at the beach, and her ability to produce an obscure crossword answer from thin air. \n\nIn passing, we are heartened that she will be free of her least favorite items including drones ruining her enjoyment of nature, any required mobile phone upgrades, the sound of gas leaf blowers, poison ivy encounters, books with poor grammar, and badly designed parking decks. \n\nIn addition to her parents, Claire is preceded in death by her brother Lloyd Brown. She is survived by her sister, Joanna Freeland, daughter Amber Farrelly (Eugene), son Mikal Joplin (Katherine), grandchildren John ‘Jack’ Farrelly and Bridget Farrelly, and many nieces and nephews. Her beloved grandchildren will continue to share their grandmother’s adventures for many years, likely with the embellishments.\n\nA private family ceremony will be held in the summer.
