In 2021, Charlotte was diagnosed with a rare, neurological disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). These last two years have been incredibly difficult, but now she is free.\n\nCharlotte was born on November 15, 1942, to Peggy and Henry Cadieu in Philadelphia, PA. Shortly after her birth, the family returned to Charlotte, NC. She attended Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School, Charlotte Catholic High School and King’s College.\n\nCharlotte married the love of her life, Ron Heath, on November 17, 1962. In 1969, Charlotte and her young family relocated to Raleigh, NC, where she lived for the remainder of her life.\n\nWhen Charlotte was young and asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her first answer was always to be a mom and she became the best Mom and the “bestest” Mimi. It’s difficult to capture in words the incredible love she had for her four children Ron, Mark, Shelly and Helen and her four grandchildren Emma, Anna, Maggie and Henry. \n\nHer mothering extended beyond her children and grandchildren to her siblings, her nieces and nephews, her children’s friends, employees, coworkers and anyone who needed a smile, a hug or a word of encouragement – or a raised eyebrow if you were out of line.\n\nShe believed in all of us and taught us to believe in ourselves.\n\nWith time, we hope to fill this hole in our hearts with wonderful memories of her voice, her laugh, her smile, her hugs and her abundant love.\n\nShe is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Heath, Sr.; her children, Ron (and Becky) Heath, Jr., Mark (and Amy) Heath, Shelly Heath (and Barry Pierce) and Helen (and Malcolm) Green; her three beautiful granddaughters, Emma, Anna and Maggie; as well as her brother, Joe Cadieu, and sisters, Betsy Ray, Patty Lamm and Dorothy Gardner, and many nieces and nephews.\n\nCharlotte was predeceased by her parents, Peggy and Henry Cadieu, and her grandson, Henry Green.\n\nHer family will receive visitors at the Borden Building at Fred Fletcher Park between 5:00-8:00 p.m. on June 15, 2023. Parking is available at 805 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.\n\nCharlotte’s family will carry her ashes to the family’s river house in Charlotte, NC, for a celebration of life to be held on September 9, 2023. Her ashes will then be interred next to her beloved grandson, Henry, at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, please donate in Charlotte’s memory to CurePSP at PSP.org.\n\nHer family gives thanks to the staff of Litchford Falls Nursing Home, ProMedica Heartland Hospice and City of Oaks Cremation for their support.\n\nBELIEVE\n"}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"05/31/2023","age":80,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/44a808bd471ada33f6ce1596d77c542d/Mom_sitting_pic_3eaf9f7fa1.jpg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"6e46dfd5-dbe1-5356-9e95-d87f0fba6fa4","slug":"2023-05-29-Thomas-Crow","name":"Thomas Crow","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Zebulon","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"05/29/2023","age":81,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"b6628b17-1f4c-52b6-8f12-84a5f8825e69","slug":"2023-05-29-Helen-Fitzgerald","name":"Helen Fitzgerald","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Apex","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"05/29/2023","age":93,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"11b3dbc7-76ac-5f36-9b1e-a05370468bc3","slug":"2023-05-29-Thomas-Kisor","name":"Thomas Kisor","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Wake Forest","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"05/29/2023","age":67,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"b293a80c-9aab-531a-a283-111f74a6e715","slug":"article-87","name":"David Hollandsworth","content":{"data":{"content":"David Luther Hollandsworth passed peacefully at home with family by his side on Saturday, May 27, 2023. \n\n\nBorn on September 21, 1953 in Winston Salem, David was the second of 4 children to his parents Dr. Luther Clarence Hollandsworth and Mary King. Music was a common fixture throughout his childhood and left a great impression on him that remained throughout his entire life. He was born at Walter Reed Hospital in 1946 and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. Peter attended the nearby St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1973 and his Master of Architecture from Yale in 1976. He was well-known for the originality and professionalism of the houses he designed in Connecticut and Eastern New York. Peter also did pro bono work, including the design and build of the gazebos for the Oxford Town Hall. As a skilled and creative craftsman, he was often very hands-on with projects.\n\nHe served two years in the Armed Forces stationed in Fort Huachuca near the Mexican border. He loved the language and culture of Mexico, and would return there throughout his life, including a one-year stint as a resident outside Mexico City and frequent trips later in life when he and his wife operated a jewelry import business.\n\nPeter was public-spirited, regularly volunteering for the Southbury Public Library, during local elections, and as an organizer for the Death Café Southbury. He was an avid reader of history and literature, knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. He had similarly broad tastes in music, ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan to Stevie Wonder. He enjoyed propagating, training, and caring for tropical house plants, and gifted many unique specimens to friends and family. He also loved the company of animals, especially dogs. His wry sense of humor will be sorely missed. \n\nTwo years prior to his death, Peter fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury, from which he never fully recovered in spite of his courageous efforts. He died peacefully at home.\n\nPeter was married to Eileen Zander (former proprietor of La Luna Dancewear in Southbury) from 1983 until her death in 2013. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Zander, his stepson Peter Sztaba, his sons Alan Zander and Nicholas Zander, his sister Beah Zander, and their respective families, as well as by close friends who provided faithful support. There will be an open house this Saturday, June 3rd from 2pm to 5pm at 1021A Heritage Village in Southbury, CT. In lieu of flowers, please continue Peter’s support to groups dedicated to protecting wildlife and the environment by making a donation to the Sierra Club Foundation."}},"city":"Chapel Hill","county":"Orange","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"05/26/2023","age":76,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/71c5644a005d958551eacb23a20547ed/object_Object_f9e2853cc7.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"7237546f-12fd-54ec-95f9-28d9c71f11e6","slug":"article-86","name":"Diana Gawen Harris","content":{"data":{"content":"Diana Gawen Harris, 77, passed away in her sleep at Brookdale Senior Living in Hillsborough, NC, on May 26, 2023, after a long battle with early-onset dementia. \n\nShe was born January 22, 1946, in Arlington, Va., the daughter of the late Perry F. Gawen, Sr., and Margaret Rice Gawen. Diana was raised there until she attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where she earned a B.A. in Education. In addition to raising three children in Wrightsville Beach, NC, Diana found meaningful work in Illinois at Health for Humanity and the Baha’i National Center, which is the administrative center of the Baha'i Faith in the U.S., the principles of which defined her life. Among those were her dedication to world peace and the concept of one human race, not divided by outward differences. Her love for these was most evidenced by her marching with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and in the rainbow of faces of those who were fortunate to make up her family. Diana had a special gift of making, not only them, but everyone around her, feel truly loved - and she loved them fiercely. She, truly, never met a stranger.\n\nAmong those Diana leaves behind are husband Joe Nickell of Buffalo, NY; daughters Cherie Roycroft, Daria (Farzin) Barazandeh, and Jaleh DeChesere; son Scott (Anice, Jackie Bell) DeChesere (decd.); brother Perry F.
