After 4 ½ years of living with incurable Ovarian cancer, she died peacefully at home with her family by her side. Ann was a true hostess to the very end. She was welcoming to everyone. She lit up the room with love that beamed from within.\nAnn was born March 16, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY to Jean and John Carbone. At age three, her family moved to Jacksonville, NC, and eventually settled in Raleigh, NC where they opened the Villa Capri and later the Casa Carbone restaurant. She was the oldest of five children. Ann attended Sacred Heart/Belmont Abbey College where she met and fell in love with her husband, Jim. They were married in 1972 and raised three beautiful daughters.\nProfessionally, Ann followed in her parents’ footsteps, in the food industry when she started a successful catering company. A few years later, she had the bold desire and courage to further her professional development as she trailblazed a career in the food sales industry. Ann was a well-respected sales executive for Macke Foods, Fancy Foods, Southern Foods, and US Foods. Through her grace, knowledge, and integrity, she was consistently recognized year after year for her sales achievements. More importantly, it was her kindness and genuine passion for helping others that superseded it all—this is where Ann mentored many in her field and fostered true lifelong friendships. She was referred to as “The patron saint of chefs in Raleigh.” Throughout her career and well into her retirement, Ann seized every opportunity to give back to the community. For over 25 years, she co-chaired the Interfaith Food Shuttle’s Taste of Hope and Blossoms of Hope fundraisers, which went to raise money to fight hunger in over seven counties.\nAnn was a devout Catholic. Her faith was central to her being. She loved and lived her life for God and was a selfless servant. Ann was truly a beacon of light to all who knew her. She was active in the Women of Grace, Altar Guild, Thursday Theologians Bible Group, and chaired the Martha’s Ministry which provided meals for needy parishioners.\nShe leaves behind many friends and family who she has touched and enriched with her gracious love of God and community. In addition to her loving husband of nearly 51 years, she is survived by their three daughters: Jennifer (John) Prichard, Emily (Chase) Cameron, Julie (Travis) Finn, and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Maria House, Gianine Carbone, and John Carbone. She is predeceased by her sister, Michele, and her parents, Jean and John Carbone.\nThe family expresses their deepest and sincerest thanks to Dr. James Parsons, Dr. Alisha Benner, Dr. Brittany Davidson, Dr. John Soper, Duke, and UNC Oncology and Transitions Hospice.\nA memorial Mass celebrating Ann’s life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, June 30, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Dr., Raleigh, NC, 27608. The Mass will also be available via live stream at https://ourladyoflourdescc.org/livestream. The Rosary will be prayed in the church preceding the Mass at 10:30 AM. \nIn Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where these funds will be used to establish a memorial ministry in Ann’s honor."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/17/2023","age":74,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/5d9520f8ccb746659ec071cfe42b011e/object_Object_9b0d6f479d.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"18d66409-5b97-590f-9b91-36f080f7fdda","slug":"2023-06-17-Rich-Trumble","name":"Richard Garth Trumble","content":{"data":{"content":"Richard Garth Trumble, passed away on Saturday, June 17th, 2023. He received his education at George Washington University in Missouri, now known as Washington University in St. Louis. While attending law school he worked as a police officer. He graduated and practiced law with a unique background from street wisdom. He lived and worked in St. Louis, Chicago, and Vermont, where he switched his vocations and worked on projects concerning land use and environmental protection, one of his passions. He eventually moved to North Carolina in the late ‘70s, where he transitioned into full-time attorney work with the North Carolina Department of Justice. As an assistant attorney general, his primary responsibility focused on the prosecution of individuals who broke environmental laws. His work focused on protecting the things he loved: nature, water, wildlife, and their habitats. He was a hunter and fisherman himself. \n\nDave also loved the arts: paintings, music, culture, and literature. A painter himself, he studied art up-close and personally as only an artist can, traveling internationally to visit the origins of some of his favorite art and serving as a docent for the NC Museum of Art. \n\nHe was an avid student of history and a gourmet cook. Dave supported numerous causes with both his money and his time, donating consistently to organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, the Audubon Society, and Defenders of Wildlife. He was a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh. \n\nDave was a convivial conversationalist and storyteller. With a booming, hearty laugh, he told vivid, detailed stories about his encounters with sly, unsavory characters who broke the law. He loved to recount stories like a folklore humorist untwisting cases and exposing wrongdoing in the courtroom, winning cases by outsmarting the accused.\n\nHe is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy. He will be fondly remembered for his generosity of spirit, as well as his love of art, hunting, and his adored pets, especially his dogs – Petey and Chugie. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Raleigh at a later date."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/14/2023","age":82,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/c0314da08feb89d4fe47460b54606445/object_Object_d8f1d0faf5.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"a9031223-8aca-5f41-9593-37c6e34bdb93","slug":"2023-06-13-Jesus-Zepeda","name":"Jesus Zepeda","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Middlesex","county":"Johnston","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/13/2023","age":90,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"51e32229-a20d-5e8a-bc81-8aa720f2b627","slug":"article-100","name":"Michael Anthony Neal","content":{"data":{"content":"Michael Anthony Neal, 67 years old, of Wendell, NC passed from death to Life on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family.
