Tim was born in N. Wilkesboro, NC and grew up in nearby Hays. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Frances Josephine Felts Hendrix and Mr. Edward Hoover Hendrix, and survived by his brother Benny Edward Hendrix, sister-in-law Ai Yen Hendrix, his beloved partner Mahmod Eslami, cousins, and a host of beloved friends and colleagues.\n\nTim was inspired to be a compassionate and gentle man by his father and inspired to be an accomplished educator by his mother. He and his brother were early Apple adopters and shared that knowledge with many. Their Baptist faith and traditions formed the heart of Tim’s identity. \n \nTim’s natural musical abilities were evident even as a small child. He taught himself piano before his lessons began. He played trombone and was drum major at both North Wilkes High and Wake Forest University, where some of his closest friendships began.\n \nTim’s love for music was matched by his love for math, and he grew up in a family that valued education. Tim completed degrees in both math and music at Wake Forest University and the University of Illinois. Eventually, he chose to complete his doctoral studies in math and chose math education as his career. Tim’s love for music was reflected in his music ministry through faithful service with Garden City Baptist in Champaign, Illinois, and Greystone Baptist in Raleigh. \n \nTim was a professor at Meredith College since 2002. He was an outstanding mathematics teacher and beloved by his students. Tim was involved in multiple STEM grants throughout his career that supported both teachers and students. He held many leadership positions over the years at Meredith, including PRISM director, Faculty Council chair, and Director of General Education. Tim was particularly proud of his work with the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) where he filled many roles including Executive Director for 6 years. Tim was honored with AMTE’s Nadine Bezuk Excellence in Leadership and Service Award in 2022. \n \nTim loved family, friends, Greystone, his Meredith colleagues and students, Italy, cooking and great food (both gourmet and country), the Deacons and the Illini, fashion, and style. Though Tim never had children, he treated those of his friends as his own. Tim fought through tremendous health challenges all his adult life yet was always there to comfort others in their time of need. Despite those challenges, Tim was victorious in his fight to live happily.\n \nLate in life, while teaching in Italy, Tim met Mahmod Eslami of San Nicolo, Italy. Cancer did not keep them from sharing an important reunion in March. The love and support Tim and Mahmod received from Tim’s Meredith, Wake Forest, and Greystone friends meant more to him than they will ever know.\n \nThe Rev. Chrissy Williamson and Greystone Baptist invite Tim’s family, friends, colleagues, and students for a celebration of life on Saturday, September 23rd at 11 am at 7509 Lead Mine Rd in Raleigh. Tim’s love of music will be celebrated by the Greystone Choir and The Gracetones under the musical leadership of Tim’s esteemed colleagues: Rev. Dr. Christian McIvor, Mrs. Pam Weis, Rev. Mike Eller, Ms. Abigail Charbeneau, and Rev. Pepper Choplin. Afterward, Greystone Baptist will host a reception in the fellowship hall. \nMemorial contributions in Tim’s name may be sent to Greystone Baptist Music Ministry, 7474 Creedmoor Rd., Box 302, Raleigh, NC 27613, or Meredith College, 3800 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27607-5298 for math and music scholarships. \n \n….Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long. She was born, Carole Lucas, in Charleston, SC, on March 18th, 1944, to Josephine Nelson and William Lucas II. She was the third of four children: her siblings Josephine Hare, William Lucas III, and Warren Lucas. Carole is survived by her two daughters, Kelly Lucas and Tippi Younger, grandson Justin Howard, daughter-in-law Juanita Johnson, and her beloved kitten.\n\nAt an early age, her family moved to New York, NY looking to find new opportunities and experiences. She and her family lived near Brooklyn's Navy Yard. There she gained many lifetime friends and enjoyed dancing and shopping. While living in Brooklyn, Carole met Steven Howard. They enjoyed movies and walking the Brooklyn Bridge together. Eventually, her first child Kelly Lucas was born. The new atmosphere and environment was a fresh start, but unfortunately also brought new challenges as Steven Howard would pass away just two years after their child’s birth.\n\nFor school, Carole attended Bronx Community College for Liberal Arts and Sciences where her favorite subjects were history and geography. While attending College, Carole loved to learn about the interactions of people and how environments played a hand in these interactions.\n\nCarole began her career working for the local Post Office. It was there that she would meet a co-worker and future husband, Peter Younger. Soon after her marriage to Peter, her second daughter Tippi Younger was born. Eventually, Carole and Peter’s marriage had its many ups and downs and ultimately ended in the couple’s divorce.\n\nAfter the Post Office, Carole would go on to work for the Metropolitan Transit Authority for another 29 years. In her early years at the transit authority, she worked in New York City’s Greenwich Village and loved walking around the area during her lunch hours. After retiring, Carole worked part time for Lord & Taylor, happily building the wardrobe of her dreams with a keen eye and well cultured fashion sense.\n\nWhile working for the Transit Authority, Carole met Anthony Enceneat and after a decade-long relationship they were married on a summer day in August; celebrated by an extravagant party in Manhattan. They lived together in the Bronx for almost 20 years with their beloved dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and turtles. Besides pets, the Enceneats' loved camping, fishing, and traveling abroad: especially to Jamaica, WI to see their relatives. After a long and loving marriage, Anthony passed away leaving a new beginning once again for Carole to move into a new stage of her life.\n\nAfter retiring in 1999, Carole soon moved to Charleston, SC seeking a change and wanting to be closer to her roots. There she enjoyed and expanded her family and friends with cousins and aunts. She participated in Charleston's Democratic Party with her aunt, Bee Harleston and assisted in Governor Riley's campaign for re-election. She also participated in the Census with her dear friend Delores Williams, and attended St. Joseph's Church with her cousin Caroline Thames. When she wasn’t listening to audio books, and finding new hobbies to explore, she often enjoyed Mahjong with her cousin Lisi Sanyal and friends.\n\nDuring her retirement she loved going on road trips. She often crossed several states, singing to her CDs and visiting friends and family. Her sister Josephine and her daughter Kelly were often her traveling companions.\n\nFor a short while in 2001, Carole moved back to New York to live with her daughter Kelly, where her grandson Justin Howard was born. After a year, she returned to Charleston and resumed her life with her cousins and friends. During this time she continued to play board games with her friends and family, and frequented the Public Library.\n\nAn avid fan of home improvement with a passion for sophisticated aesthetic, she eventually moved to St George, SC where she spent her time always working on new projects to renovate her newly found home. During summers she continued to take road trips and found a partner in crime in her young grandson who was now her primary travelling partner and renovation assistant. She resided here in St. George until it became hard for her to continue working on her home.\n\nTowards the end of her life she spent much time between Raleigh NC, and St. George, always accompanied by her first daughter, grandson, and kitten with whom she loved and cherished many adventures. Her past times consisted of reading and watching her favorite mystery series, shopping, and spending her time outdoors.\n\nA celebration of Carole's life will be held in her hometown of Charleston, SC. She was and always will be so loved. Barbara was born to Eva Weatherly Spears and Robert Lester Spears, Jr. in Lamar, SC on December 5th, 1931. As a young child, Barbara spent many an afternoon riding with her beloved father delivering mail. During a double date in her senior year at Coker College, she would meet and fall in love with Robert Baird, a minister at St. Paul’s church in Bennettsville. The only stipulation she had was that he couldn’t wear the clerical black shirt with his white collar as she was concerned that her friends wouldn’t think that was “cool.” Bob and Barbara wed later that year after she turned 21 as Bob “didn’t want to be accused of robbing the cradle.” They had a wonderful marriage and would later go on to have their three children; Robert, Jean, and David and move to Raleigh in 1967. Barbara would soon find a teaching position at Broughton High School where she taught for 25 years. After retirement, Barbara focused on the thing she loved the most: gardening! She was passionate about her yard doing everything from planting to trimming and even digging up a tree stump after Hurricane Fran. She cherished her grandkids and spending time at home with her family. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Bob. As was typical she took care of what needed to be done – returned to school, worked multiple jobs to support the family, saw her kids through the teen drama years and beyond. None of it was easy but Helen persevered, and usually with good humor. Helen loved dancing and met her second husband Joe Ruskey at a Chicago ballroom. They shared 17\nhappy years together until he too passed unexpectedly. After a lifetime in the Chicago area, she moved to North Carolina where she continued to enjoy the things she loved most.\n\nHer backyard always bloomed with gorgeous flowers from spring until fall. She enjoyed listening to many types of music, especially Dixieland jazz and the blues. She loved musical theater, regularly attending the Broadway touring company performances when they came to town, and never missed her favorite Les Mis. Helen was a crossword puzzle aficionado - not the easy ones but the NY Times tough ones most people avoid. She also stayed true to her Chicago roots and supported the White Sox AAA team the Charlotte Knights. Helen was an engaged and informed citizen who closely followed politics and never missed voting in local and national elections. She was a dog lover particularly fond of Corgis, especially her crazy dog George who tended to rule the roost. And she threw great parties and mixed a mean cocktail. Angel Helen was generous to everyone and loved by her friends and family. She had a way of patiently listening and advising when things needed to be said.
