He graduated West York High School in 1963, where he was a star athlete on the cross country team and member of the school band. He attended York College and then served in the US Navy as a Yoeman before earning his BS in business administration from Old Dominion University. Terry joined Kimberly-Clark in 1972 until he retired in 2000. He spent the next 20 years working various roles within several grocery stores, including Winn-Dixie and Food Lion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saving Grace at https://savinggracenc.org/give/donate-now/"}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"07/31/2023","age":33,"user_updated":true,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"5a3d8943-06fd-5746-b0b8-07d97e990243","slug":"article-147","name":"Oris Edwin Holloway, Jr.","content":{"data":{"content":"Oris Edwin Holloway, Jr. (Ed), of Wake Forest, NC passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the age of 81.  He was born in New Bern, North Carolina to the late Oris Edwin and Mae Mayo Holloway on July 4, 1942. \n\nEd graduated from New Bern High School in 1960 and subsequently from North Carolina State University with a major in Food Science in 1964.  During his long and productive career in the food industry, he worked with FMC Corporation, M&M Mars, and the Planters Division of RJR Nabisco.  During his tenure with Planters, Ed was granted thirteen separate patents for products and processes the company implemented, including the process for creating honey roasted peanuts.  After retiring from Planters in 1997, Ed formed his own company, providing expert level independent consulting services to the food industry worldwide.\n\nEd was an avid woodworker. While his incredible attention to detail allowed him to create many beautifully handcrafted pieces, his immeasurable kindness and generosity prompted him to gift these treasured items to numerous friends and family over the years.  Ed’s joy and satisfaction from completing these wonderful pieces was only eclipsed by the many grateful smiles he received in return for his gifts.\n\nHe is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of 59 years, and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lesley Parker (Don) of Cary, NC, and Paige Russell (Scott) of Wake Forest, NC. His four grandchildren are Will and Ben Parker and Hannah and Natalie Russell. \n\nHe was a dedicated and cherished member of Trinity Baptist Church where his Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 2:00pm. The service will be officiated by Dr. Jeff Roberts. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. Kay is survived by her daughter, Leslie Hope Pekrul (Brian) of Raleigh and granddaughter Rachel as well as by her sisters Jencie Faye Dixon Craft,  and Wanda Inez Dixon Carr. She was preceded in death by her father William Wayne Dixon and her mother Willie Inez Harrell; her brother John Wayne Dixon, her brother William Carroll Dixon and her brother Edward O'Neal Dixon.\n\nKay grew up in the Greenville, NC area.  She wore many hats but spent several years working at her brother's restaurant, Venter's Grill, which was known for its sweet potato biscuits and chicken 'n dumplings. She also worked for H&R Block helping people with taxes. She loved keeping papers organized! She eventually moved to Wake Forest where she stayed busy spending time with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. Kay was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved reading and telling silly jokes. She enjoyed westerns and watching Cross Assembly online. She was also very good at drawing. Her granddaughter was her pride and joy.
