Born Agnes Lucille Dodson on January 27, 1940, in West Virginia to her parents, Charles William Dodson and Doris Snyder Dodson. Lucy was the oldest of five children, with brothers Charles \"Buck\" Dodson, John \"Jack\" Dodson, Robert Dodson, and Larry Dodson. Her father's untimely passing when she was just 12 years old marked a significant chapter in her life, and she was also deeply saddened by her mother's passing in 2006.\n\nAfter completing high school, Lucy embarked on a new journey by moving to Alexandria, Virginia. There, she pursued higher education at Benjamin Franklin University, paving the way for a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper. During her time in Alexandria, she met the love of her life, Walter Boge, and their love story blossomed. Lucy and Walter's union was blessed with three wonderful sons: William, Matthew, and Christopher.\n\nLucy cherished her role as a mother and later as a grandmother. William, her eldest son, married Libby, and together they blessed Lucy with two cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Laurie. Matthew, her second son, married Ryan, and they added two more precious grandchildren, August and Alex, to Lucy's life. She was overjoyed to have a great-granddaughter named Olive, whose presence brought immense joy to her.\n\nThroughout their lives, Walt and Lucy forged deep and lasting friendships, many of which began in their beloved community on Kenley Court in Alexandria. These friendships endured the test of time and remained steadfast until Lucy's passing. They both shared a passion for the Washington Redskins and were proud season ticket holders, attending countless games together.\n\nWalt and Lucy embarked on a new adventure by relocating to Ocean Pines, Maryland, where they enjoyed their well-deserved retirement by the water's edge. Sadly, Walter passed away five years ago, leaving Lucy with cherished memories of their life together. She moved to North Carolina to be closer to her son Matthew, daughter-in-law Ryan, and their children.\n\nLucy was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her brothers Robert and Larry preceded her in death, but the bonds of family and friendship were never broken. Lucy was a warm-hearted and kind soul, always ready with a generous spirit and a forgiving heart. \n\nAs an avid reader, Lucy would lose herself in the pages of countless books, and her love for crossword puzzles and bridge was well-known among her friends and family. \n\nLucille Dodson Boge touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a woman of grace and warmth.\n\nA celebration of Lucy's life will be held on October 28th in Raleigh, North Carolina and she will be laid to rest together with her husband at a future date in Weston, WV. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice.\n\nRest in peace, dear Lucy."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"09/14/2023","age":83,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/da36a7020432413a01f792e9c821ce55/object_Object_f998d9c52a.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"3c05a887-99da-5968-b0e1-a5da0c41397b","slug":"2023-09-13-John-Michel","name":"John Michel","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"09/13/2023","age":62,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"1c679222-61cd-5514-b78b-a6caca12ef00","slug":"article-207","name":"John \"Jack\" Albert Michaels","content":{"data":{"content":"John (Jack) Albert Michaels was born in Bellefont, PA in 1951 to Al and Mary Lib Michaels. Jack was born 10 minutes before his twin sister, Beth. After moving to Raleigh in 1954, he experienced an idyllic childhood playing in the woods and creek in Country Club Hills and walking a tree lined path to Lassiter Mill and the country store. Jack was especially proud of becoming an excellent water skier thanks to his neighbor, Mr. Hallwood, teaching him on trips to Kerr Lake. Playing ball after school with the neighborhood boys, John Bunn, Harry Walker, George Bason, Lee Salisbury, Hank Cunningham, and Fred Thornhill, was always a treat. He loved the annual Michaels family beach trips, to Wrightsville and Pine Knoll Shores, where he fondly remembered playing with his niece, Anne, and nephews, John, David, and Jeff.\n\nJack attended Our Lady of Lourdes through 7th grade and became the first of his group to lead the way into the public schools, graduating from Broughton High School in 1969. For the next two summers, Jack was employed as a food service counselor, or “kitchen boy,” at Camp Seafarer with some of his best friends. It was there that he learned to sail and acquired the gumption to date pretty girls. \n\nJack attended NC State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was proud of graduating in economics with honors in 1973, a major that he felt served him well in his professional life. Jack earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1977. It was there he formed his rich, lifelong friendships with fellow law students – a group that became known as the Zonkers. After law school, Jack became licensed to practice law in both North and South Carolina, taking both bar exams in one week! As an attorney, Jack gravitated to civil litigation because of the wide variety of work in things such as product liability, wrongful death cases, contract disputes, and complex vehicle accidents. For one client, Jack traveled to Indianapolis to learn to operate a big rig. Jack became a minor expert on the physics of vehicle accident reconstruction, giving seminars on that topic. Brain injury cases became a specialty. Jack enjoyed practicing law for 15 years at Young, Moore, and Henderson, PA. In 2000, he joined his brother Paul to found Michaels and Michaels, PA. \n\nIn 1972, Jack married Rebecca (Becky) Hooper. They grew up together during the next ten years, pulling for the Pack, tailgating, partying with the Zonkers, and generally having the most fun they could find. They bought their first home in Anderson, SC, where Jack discovered his love of gardening. They welcomed their son, Zachary, followed by daughters, Sarah and Virginia. Their family years were filled with music; dancing in the kitchen; tent camping; stargazing at Bald Head Island; fires in the fireplace and football on tv; and toasts as the entire family gathered at Christmas. \n\nWith his passion for adventure, bountiful energy, and love of challenge, Jack had countless hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf no matter how mediocre his game might be – enjoying the companionship of his golf buddies and hours spent outdoors on beautiful courses. He canoed the Nantahala with Becky and the Black Swamp with David Kay. He hiked the Tetons, North Carolina mountain trails, and Umstead Park. He took his wife and children on “marathon vacations,” camping throughout the United States, along the way visiting 13 different baseball stadiums across the country. Jack skied almost all of the Western US destinations on winter trips with friends and his son, Zak. He took Becky on fabulous road trips, with Jack driving and Becky navigating as they toured the southern coast of England, the Cotswalds and Wales, Normandy, the Loire valley, and Provence. The duo cruised from Prague and Budapest to Amsterdam, marveling at castles and villages along the Danube and Rhine. \n\nJack’s life was truly a life well lived. He touched many lives with his warmth and leaves everyone richer for having known him. Jack exemplified honor, integrity, loyalty, intellectual curiosity, appreciation for every experience that came his way, and most of all, love. \n\nHe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Becky; son and daughter-in-law, Zachary Michaels and Colette Blair of Lafayette, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Nick Kindig, and granddaughters Adelaide and Lydia of Richmond, VA; and daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Kevin Ganssle, and grandchildren Molly and Liam of Fairfax Station, VA. He leaves five brothers and sisters, eleven nieces and nephews, and their families.\n\nDress joyfully for a service in celebration of Jack’s life at Fairmont United Methodist Church, 2501 Clark Avenue, on September 23 at 3 pm. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. A livestream will be available on the church Facebook page."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"09/13/2023","age":71,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/70cbb04ec21fd136956e864938e7ea3a/object_Object_f661610ea8.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"91e19190-0e70-5e6d-8ba1-fb3de1289ebd","slug":"article-209","name":"Enma Victoria Salazar Correa","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Cary","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"09/13/2023","age":86,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"91ae30b5-4b05-5c4d-af72-f09f2ad918e0","slug":"2023-09-13-Michael-Giberson","name":"Michael M. He was born on August 2, 1944 in High Point, NC. George had a happy childhood playing with his two sisters and his brother. They had free rein of the neighborhood to ride bikes and play roll-a-bat and kick ball. He loved to tell stories about his childhood, especially about the two paper routes he delivered every day before school, even in the snow and ice. In high school, George enjoyed playing baritone sax in a dance band and having lots of adventures, such as driving with his best friend to Florida arriving on his seventeenth birthday. After graduating from High Point Central High School in 1962, he went to East Carolina University where he had many good times at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house. He was Vice President and one of the crew that built the “Party House.” It was during this time that he met Anne Bryant on a blind date. Even though he took her to a drag race on their first date, they were happily married for 55 years. After graduating from East Carolina, he received a Master’s degree from The College of William and Mary. \n\nGeorge had a varied career including being a fifth-grade teacher, elementary school principal, school fundraiser, college logo merchandiser, and finally the manager of a law firm. He worked hard, but building relationships with the people he worked with was always more important to him than the work itself. \n\nHe loved his family and was quick to tell them and show them how much he cared. George was a supportive dad to his two sons and encouraged them to follow their dreams. He was so proud of the men they have become. George was thrilled to become a Papa and enjoyed spending time with his precious granddaughters. He was a master pancake maker famous for creating pancakes of every color and design.\n\nHe was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending the day fishing, hunting, or clearing paths on the family farm near Scotland Neck, NC. George appreciated God’s beautiful creation and loved sharing it with friends and family. If you were around him for more than a few minutes, he would show you pictures of fish he caught. \n\nAs an adult, George’s faith became very important to him. He had various leadership roles at church, but he felt that his most important work was with the youth. He spent many years teaching youth in Sunday School and going on youth mission trips. Some of his happiest days were spent working with teenagers while repairing homes. He loved being around young people and helping them grow in their faith. He wanted them to know how much Jesus loves them.\n\nGeorge was an affectionate, tender hearted, and thoughtful man. He cared deeply about his friends. He enjoyed having a hearty laugh with them, but he was also there to offer a word of support when they were going through hard times. He was very grateful for the prayers, love, and support of his many friends, especially during these last two years. \n\nGeorge is survived by his wife, Anne Bryant Sherman; his son, Frank Welborn Sherman and wife Katie, and granddaughters, Lily, Anna, and Willa; his son John Bryant Sherman and wife Ellen. He is also survived by his sister, Starr Lewis and husband Larry; his sister, Mary Dillard and husband Odell; his sister-in-law Jaunitta Sherman; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Suezi Long; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Hope Bryant; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Roxie Sherman, and his brother Johnny Sherman.\n\nA service celebrating George’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, on September 16, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 100 Peace Street in Raleigh, NC.
