Kayla’s interests included music, movies, video games, D&D, and anime. Kayla was a creative artist who wrote stories and drew her own characters. She enjoyed spending time with friends, vacationing with family, baking, and cooking. She experimented with make-up, hair styling, and dressing up in costume. Kayla loved animals, particularly wolves and foxes. She was loving and accepting of all people. Kayla was beautiful, with a sweet smile and curly rings of blonde hair she had since childhood. She was sensitive, feminine, and shy. Kayla was a cherished friend and family member who will be greatly missed. Kayla is survived by her parents, Juan and Bernadette, her brother JC, her nephews, Anthony and Milo, as well as cousins, uncles, aunt and grandparents. He graduated from Rockingham High School and was drafted into the Army.  He was stationed in Germany at the end of WWII.  After his military service, he received a degree in Business Administration from Elon College. \n\nHenry met his wife, Ella Mae Morgan, at Elon and they were married June 30th, 1951.   They were married over 71 years and were blessed with two sons; Hank, David, and a daughter, Judy. \n\nHenry worked in insurance for Prudential for over 30 years, retiring in the early 90’s.  He was an active member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years teaching both adult and children Sunday School classes.  He was a devout Christian and read the entire bible every year after retirement.  During his retirement, he read hundreds of books, enjoyed socializing with community members, and volunteering. Henry had strong family values and enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  For many years he took the family on an annual weeklong vacation at Emerald Isle, NC.  He always supported his family.  Many knew Henry as “The Candy Man” as he never left the house without some hard candies in his pocket to give to those in the community. Henry never knew a stranger and had a large group of close friends. \n\nHenry is survived by his loving wife, Ella Mae, sons Hank (Debbie) and David Wentz, son-in-law Scott Gordley, grandchildren Sayer (Sean) Brosnahan, Geena (Preston) Keyes, Jill, and Justine Gordley, and great-grandchildren Anora Brosnahan and Weston Keyes.   He has one surviving sister, Mary “Lib” McDougald, and many nieces and nephews.   \n\nHenry is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Judy, one brother (Reverand Walter Allen Wentz Jr.), one sister (Helen “Jo” Carr), and one stepsister (Virginia West). \n\nThere will be a service held at 1 p.m. on November 18th, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church at 714 E Whitaker Mill Rd, Raleigh, NC  27608.   \n\nIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"11/02/2023","age":96,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/44d29890188142a37e2686f06a5abf91/object_Object_b481cd339c.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"31ef0fd3-903b-5471-8fa0-27abb66110d2","slug":"article-257","name":"Richard Lucas, Jr.","content":{"data":{"content":"Richard (Rick) Simons Lucas, Jr. aged 61, went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Melissa; two daughters, Dori Adams (Skylar) of Greenville and Rachel Lucas of Asheville, and a son, Hunter Lucas of Salt Lake City and a step-son Dakota Mullins (Brittany) London as well as his father, Richard Simons Lucas (Mary Mac) and two sisters, Kim Coffman (Darryl) and Clarky Davis (Tim), and three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence R. Bird and her siblings Susannah Williamson and Thomas Lyons III.\n\nJane was born on April 14th, 1930 in Washington DC to Kathleen (Ewing) and Thomas Lyons Jr. She met her husband, Larry, in a CPA review course where they were both students – and she was the only woman in the class. They were married in 1954 in Fairfax, VA. She worked for several years as an accountant and bookkeeper. Jane and Larry raised their family in Laurel, Maryland, where the children attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and St. Vincent Pallotti High School. They were members of St. Mary’s of the Mills Catholic Church, where Jane and Larry were actively involved for many years.\n\nJane was an avid gardener and cat lover. She doted on her garden and yard in Laurel; at her home in NC, her cat Jackie was her constant companion. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, making her own wedding dress, and knitting sweaters for each of her 17 grandchildren. Jane and Larry camped with their young family throughout the mid-Atlantic states and continued to camp together after Larry’s retirement. After Larry died in 2010, Jane moved to North Carolina to be near her daughter Amy, who was a devoted caregiver.\n\nThe funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on November 18th, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church in Laurel, Maryland, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jane’s life.
