Karen was a devoted defender of the environment and was employed by the State of North Carolina in various roles for 45 years.  She attended Wake Technical Community College and North Carolina State University.  Karen began her exemplary public service as an NC Lab Assistant in 1977.  Karen finished her career as an NC Environmental Specialist, thus closing out an exemplary career of service for the people of North Carolina.  She is survived by many friends and family, whose lives she has touched and those close to her remember her as a loving person who always thought of others before herself.  Karen is preceded in death by her father, William, mother Jane, and sister Billie. He was born in Charleston, WV on September 18, 1943 the son of Sara Frances Jarrett and James Samuel Frederick Huhn.  The family attended The First Presbyterian Church where Walt came to know his Lord and Savior and developed a strong foundation of faith.\n\nIn 1962, Walt graduated from Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA.  He played as a guard on the varsity basketball team and was a member of the Color Guard.  His passion for basketball began at Hargrave and spilled over to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  In later years Walt became an avid UVA fan thanks to his professor, mentor and friend at Georgia Southern.\n\nWalt moved to Savannah, GA where he began his career in Sales with New England Life Insurance.  In Savannah he met his wife Sally Cope and later they welcomed their daughter Shelby.\n\nWalt worked many years in Sales for Palemetto Shipping and Ivran Shipping Lines.  Walt was a respected and well-known Steam Ship Line Agent who assisted exporters with their international customers. \n\nIn later years Walt and Sally became members of Sovereign Grace Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Walt was a man of abiding faith and received joy in helping others and being a loyal friend and neighbor.  The past three years Walt and Sally have resided in Raleigh to be close to their daughter Shelby and her husband Scott Thomas and their three grandsons, Payton, Sam and Hunter. She is survived by her mother Betty Landes of Goldsboro and her long time and special friend Shelton Beasley. She is preceded in death by her father Keith Landes and husband Willie Holloman. She leaves behind three children. Miranda Deaver (Johnny), Bryan Jackson and Ashley Jackson. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Johnny ,Jr. (Sarah), Tyler (Kerrylynn), Kaylee, Madison, Scott and Skylar. She has several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that will miss her deeply. She also leaves behind her siblings; Philip Landes (Elida) of Dudley, Carl Landes(Theresa) of Lexington, Sherry Batten of Selma and Julie Edwards (Roger) of Princeton. \n\nShe really had a talent for sewing and making the dresses and suits for her children when they were small as well as other cute outfits for other small children of our family. She had a special love for dogs too. They were family. She took great pride in decorating her home and loved making her curtains. She was a wonderful baker too. She will be missed dearly and a void will be left in our hearts.\n\nA celebration of life memorial service will be held at the home of her mother, Betty Landes, on December 9 at 1:00 pm with a meal to follow. We ask that you bring a covered dish if you are able. She found immense joy in being a grandmother and great grandmother.
