Robin never met a stranger. She was a kind and loving woman with a heart of gold who supported her family fiercely. She was a woman of great faith who loved Jesus Christ. She was a true patriot who loved her country. Robin is survived by her husband, Steven Gregory Askew, her daughters Megan Jane Nichols and Kristina Delores Vitale, her stepson Steven Bradley Askew, her beloved dog Bailey, her two sisters Valerie Levine and Melissa Mosca, her granddaughters Abigail Leeann Nichols, Paris Leeann Faulk, and Makayla Ivory Faulk, as well as her nephew Michael Robert Hans and son-in-law Brian Dwyer Powers Roche. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Alfred Hans, mother Jane Carol Ryan, and son-in-law Laurance Dean Nichols. Robin loved the outdoors and craved the warmth of the sun on her face. She enjoyed tending to her gardens and flowers and spending time at their camper at the beach. She cherished moments with her family and was a devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, and Grandmother.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 12 pm at Trinity Baptist Church, \n3624 Raleigh Rd. Pkwy W. She enjoyed spending time with siblings (Joan Craig McDonnell & Clayton “Bud” Justice) and cousins at Lake Wallenpaupack in the Pocono Mountains on her family’s land. She had great memories of sock-hops, drive-in movies and dancing on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. After moving to Durham, NC in 1970, she worked and retired from the School of Journalism at UNC in Chapel Hill. An avid Tar Heel and Carolina sports fan. She volunteered in many ways from becoming a pink lady in gift shop to president of Auxiliary Board at Duke Hospital. A devout Christian and long time member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church. She loved her family, friends and neighbors in Parkwood of almost 50 years. She suffered with Alzheimer’s living final years with her son & his family. Judy’s children are Marci Watkins, James Meade (Julie) and Andrew Meade (Jennifer). Grandmother to Tyler, Lauren, Paige, Mathew, Christian & Cole. After graduating from Draper Central School he entered the United States Air Force, where he served for 20 years nationally and internationally. \n\nIn 1960, he asked for the blessing of Wilbur Bush to marry his daughter, Mickey, and they were married on September 20. They raised two children, Kim and Jeff. While busy raising children, coaching his son’s sports teams, serving the church and serving in the Air Force, Ed earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Theoretical Mathematics from Rollins College. Ed retired  from the USAF on March 31, 1980. He  then worked for ENSCO, a civilian partner of his USAF unit, for another 20 years.\n\nEd and Mickey enjoyed travel to every part of the globe, beginning with the United States and then visiting  every continent in the world with the exception of Antarctica. They enjoyed wildlife safaris in Africa, the Great Wall of China, the history of Poland, and had many, many other adventures.\n\nEd had a servant’s heart, serving as a youth leader, leading youth teams to the Appalachia Service Project, working on mission teams regionally and internationally, delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering with Wheels4Hope, teaching Adult Sunday School and singing in a choir that visited nursing homes, and in many other ways.\n\nEd enjoyed many sports, playing basketball in high school and early college, taking up tennis as an adult, playing often with friends, and taking up golf in his retirement years, playing regularly with friends met at church and in his neighborhood. \n\nEd was proud of his family—of his wife’s educational achievements and appointment as elementary school principal in Brevard County, FL; of his son’s athletic accomplishments, career success and family life with wife, Pam; of his daughter’s educational accomplishments, life as a pastor and family with Tom and Kirsten; he delighted in his granddaughter, Kirsten, and was so proud to see her graduate from college and graduate school.\n\nAs he reflected on his life, he said again and again, “I have been blessed” and affirmed his assurance that although his earthly life was coming to a close, his life in heaven is just beginning.  His earthly life ended on February 22, 2024.\n\nEd was predeceased by his parents, sister, Sheila, brother, Leslie and daughter-in-law, Pam. He is survived by wife, Mickey, children, Kim (Tom) and Jeff, granddaughter, Kirsten, sister, Eunice, and many extended family members and brothers and sisters in Christ.\n\nA service of death and resurrection will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11:00AM at Wakefield UMC, 10701 Common Oaks Drive, Raleigh, NC 27614 with fellowship following. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Eva Villavaso Celestine, her brothers, Wilfred (Toon), Herman (Putt), and Marques Celestine, her loving husband Anthony Skidmore, and two sons, Vince and Sherrold Skidmore. \n\nHer young life was spent learning her values from a religious upbringing. She attended St Monica School, Xavier University Preparatory and Straights Business School where she later worked as an instructor.\n\nGloria married Anthony Skidmore in Little Rock, AR. Being a military wife increased her desire to travel. After she raised her children, she pursued her dream and traveled to many countries.\n\nGloria was a kind, loving, generous, supportive mother and friend. Everyone affectionately called her YaYa. If you had a problem, you could always talk to YaYa. She would always listen and you knew she had your back. Her loving personality and her Southern hospitality was always there. If you visited her home, she was always ready to serve you dinner or at least a piece of cake.\n\nShe is survived by her three siblings, Shirley, Vernell (Irene) Celestine, JoAnn (Paul) Berzat. She was raised in St. Joe, Louisiana on Lake Bruin where she spent countless hours with her siblings and beloved nieces and nephews. She went on to LSU with support from a Betty Crocker cooking scholarship where she graduated in 1967 with her BS in Education. Shortly thereafter on May 8, 1968, she married 2nd Lt. Scott Pias who then deployed to Vietnam.\nIn his absence, she taught the children of the soldiers at Barksdale. This began her reliance on her strong faith in God. When Scott left the service for LSU law school, they began their family with the birth of Lannon and thus began the Pias team trailblazing. Scott and Kathleen moved to Lake Charles, LA and with fellow ARC parents built a thriving community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), i.e., writing grants for and painting the walls of group homes, leading athletes to the International Special Olympics games, and developing the Regina Caeli school to educate those with IDD, chairing boards, and walking the halls of hospitals to welcome new IDD babies to the community. She and her husband were also a staunch advocates for the mentally ill and supported the establishment of a local NAMI chapter and building housing for those with mental illness. Kathleen’s education included two master’s degrees from McNeese State University (Early Childhood Education and Counseling). \nShe was a constant in the school systems of her community from Barksdale to Baton Rouge, to Lake Charles; she taught and provided school counseling as a Licensed Professional Counselor to 3 or more generations of children and her impact was evident by her popularity at the grocery store. She embraced life as well as those she encountered with a sincere and profound love. Kathleen loved her family and 3 children, often hosting her huge extended family with gatherings of more than 50 people. The world is a better place for having had her among us for the last 79 years. \nKathleen is survived by her husband of 55 years Scott and three children, Lannon, Erin Hines (Ian) and Stacey Rowe (Paul), and her sister Judith Burt as well as countless extended family members. Survivors include his son David (Barbie) Yeary of Ravenna and daughter Suzanna Yeary (Brandi Collins) of Madison, NC.\n\nDavid had eight Grandchildren, three which he was close with Jacob Baughn, Mark Anthony Baughn, and Cloe Baughn from Madison, NC. He also had four great grandkids, one which he was close to Isabella Marie Hawks. Also survived by his brothers Charles and Eugene Yeary of Ravenna, Ohio and sister Betty of Prince George, VA and a very special friend Ambur Collins. He continued his education at the University of Illinois where he obtained his PhD. in plant physiology and plant biochemistry. He married the love of his life, Jan (Bohs) in September of 1959. He was a professor at NCSU for 32 years. His wife Jan preceded him in death on July 5, 2022. He is survived by his three daughters: Kathryn Britt (Gerald), Diane Schifter (Tobias) and Michelle Pettey. He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren: David Ronan (Amanda), Adam Schifter (Emily), Rachel Musgrove (Braxton), Kaitlyn Pettey, Megan Pettey, as well as three great grandsons. He is also survived by his brother Alan whom he regarded as his best friend. She greatly enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved, attending church and volunteering at Blossoms Thrift Store Missions Ministry. Rosa was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She illuminated grace, patience and love to everyone she knew. Rosa was and will continue to be everything that is beautiful and right in this world. There are simply no words to describe how much she will be missed. \n\nShe was predeceased in death by her parents Laymon Evans and Naomi Evans (Cain). Her son Steven Kevin Sweat and sister Nancy Evans Webster. \n\nRosa is survived by her daughter Jaime West Haddock (Scott), sister Wanda Evans Bell (Larry), brother Ray Cain (Cheryl), granddaughters Chelsea Sweat Paul (Tyler), Audrey Rose Haddock and great grandson Milo Paul.
