She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and\nfriend. Those who knew and loved her describe Janet as a gentle soul: easygoing,\nsupportive, kind, generous, patient and joy-filled, with a quiet witty gleam in her eye.\n\nJanet was born August 29, 1946 in Woodville, Texas to Joseph McCampbell Snow and\nIvy Dell Seamans. She attended Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, TX, and Howard\nPayne University in Brownwood, TX, where she met and married her first husband, Allan\nMote. Janet then graduated from the University of Corpus Christi (now Texas A&M\nUniversity-Corpus Christi). A lifelong educator, Janet began her teaching career in\nCorpus Christi, then continued teaching after losing her husband and relocating with her\ndaughter to Northern Virginia. Later as a young widow, Janet met and married a young\nwidower, Dick Monteith, from her church. In 1981, the couple moved to Wake Forest, NC,\nwhere they adopted each others’ children and raised their family.\n\nJanet and Dick founded Monteith Travel Service in 1983 and expanded it to three\nsuccessful locations. In her role as an agency owner, Janet founded and directed an\naward winning travel school in conjunction with their business. In addition to her career,\nservice to the church and community were constants in her life. This was evident\nthrough the work done with the Wake Forest Rotary Club as a Paul Harris Fellow and in\nher many church roles. Enjoying many decades of a flourishing business, Janet was\nable to travel the world extensively. As a lover and student of travel, her focus was less\nabout the destination but instead the memories and lessons shared. Later in life, Janet\nbecame a self-taught watercolor artist and found much joy in this passion, incorporating\nher travel experiences into her artwork. Travel fueled her creative mind and reminded\nher of the miracle of God's creations and his people throughout the world. She\nshared this love by enjoying the fellowship of local artists’ groups. She never forgot how\nlucky she was to have had these early years of traveling the world, and she loved sharing\nher experiences with others. Yet, through all of her travels, her favorite trips were those\nspent with family and friends on the beaches of North and South Carolina.\n\nJanet was also a talented pianist with the ability to play by ear. Connecting to her family\nthrough her music, she loved playing and singing her favorite song, “You are my\nsunshine,” to her grandsons. Even through her illness, she enjoyed playing piano and\nsinging until the end of her days. Janet was truly the sunshine to everyone fortunate\nenough to know and love her.\n\nJanet was a faithful and devoted Christian all her life and grew up with her childhood\nchurch just steps from her back door. If the doors of the church were open, Janet could\nsurely be found inside. Having been a member of Baptist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal\nchurches, denomination didn’t matter to Janet. Her lifelong love of God and his people\nwas the driving force in her life and she followed where he led her. Janet radiated a\ndeeply faithful and inclusive personality. She will be dearly missed.\n\nShe was predeceased by her parents, Joseph McCampbell Snow and Ivy Dell Seamans;\nher first husband, Thomas Allan Mote III; and her second husband, Richard Taylor\nMonteith Jr. She is survived by her children: Kathy Monteith Otten (Bill) of Wake Forest,\nNC; Dr. Theresa Monteith Johnson (Michael) of Morehead City, NC; and Andrew\nAlderman Monteith (Kristen) of Charlotte, NC. Janet has seven grandchildren, Matthew\nand Graham Otten; Cameron, Sam, and Maggie Johnson; and Corinne and Abigayle\nMonteith, all who lovingly called her “JJ”. Janet is also survived by her brother and his\nwife, Joseph and Cheryl Snow of Colleyville, TX.\n\nA memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 3rd in St John’s Episcopal\nChurch, Wake Forest, and the family will receive friends following the service in the\nparish hall.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Janet’s honor to Dementia Alliance of\nNorth Carolina, 9131 Anson Way, Suite 206 Raleigh, NC 27615 or The Rotary Club of\nWake Forest, P.O. Yes, even Zoey knew right down to the minute that she was born. When asked for the typical identifying information at her many appointments and treatments, she would often add in the time of her birth as well. If she didn’t, the staff would ask, waiting for Zoey’s giggle like she was trying to test her care team as if they didn’t know exactly who she was from the moment she came through the door.\n\nSince she was small, Zoey had a passion for drawing and painting. She went through countless sketch books, canvases, and art supplies. As her brain tumor journey evolved, she developed an even greater love for music and jokes. She had a song to fit any conversation and would randomly have her smart device affectionately known as “computer” play songs that reminded her of a special moment or feeling she was experiencing. \n\nZoey was often found going out of her way to help those around her, especially those less fortunate. Overflowing with generosity, Zoey readily extended whatever she had at the moment — whether it was food, water, or simply engaging in meaningful conversation — to those who were in need. During her hospital stay, we learned that she had been quietly offering snacks to classmates who lacked them. Which explains why our snack supply seemed to disappear so quickly. Zoey's innate kindness extended far beyond material things; she consistently sought out opportunities to make sure those around her felt loved. The depths of her compassionate nature left those who met her with a whole new outlook on life.\n\nZoey eagerly awaited our beach outings and mountain adventures. Among her favorite moments were those spent singing karaoke, exchanging jokes, gem mining, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with everyone.\n\nAs Zoey prepared to celebrate her 11th birthday in January, Make-A-Wish helped make her dreams of experiencing a volcano come true. After some brainstorming and quick planning, Zoey and her family were able to visit Mauna Loa and Kīlauea on the Island of Hawaii (The Big Island). Zoey was able to touch and examine volcanic rocks as well as observe active lava and the heat vents. This brought her much joy and ignited her passion to be a Geologist even more. If you visited with Zoey you were sure to hear about her love for rocks, gems, and fossils. \n\nThe bright light that radiated from within Zoey will be missed by so many.\n\nHer memory will live on within her parents, Benjamin and Nicole Jones; doting brother, Zyair; Paternal Grandparents, Carstella Moore and Benjamin Jones; Maternal Grandparents, Gregory and Laura Athey; Godmother and Auntie Amber and Craig Doschadis and cousins Mareya, Marlee, and Meena; and Auntie Jennifer and Tedd Curry and cousin Oliver; additional Godparents Amy Jerome, Miles Moore, and Dennis Little; along with a large extended family and friends who became family. Zoey also leaves behind her beloved ducks Cheese and Quackers and her adopted rescue shark Mia. \n\nAwaiting her arrival at heavens gates were her Auntie Amanda and Cousin Lamar.\n\nSeveral organizations supported Zoey's family during this journey and would benefit from any donations in Zoey’s memory.\n\nChildren’s Cancer Partners of the Carolina’s - https://childrenscancerpartners.org/\nMake-A-Wish - https://wish.org/eastnc\nTransitions Kids - https://www.transitionslifecare.org/patients/pediatric/\n\nWe were also supported strongly by our church.
