He was 93 years old.\n \nBorn August 6, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to Henry Lewis Hunter and Millicent Ryder, “Bud” as he was called as a boy, grew up on a potato farm in Orient Point, Long Island. He attended Southold High School where he was a star athlete before earning two degrees in Physical Education from SUNY-Cortland (1952 and 1959). In 1952, Chip was stationed in Japan as an MP during the Korean War. Upon his return, Chip began his career of coaching at Hamilton College from 1955 to 1959. In 1971 Chip earned his doctoral degree from Springfield College that focused on the mechanics of the golf swing. \n \nDuring his 31 years at SUNY-Potsdam, Chip made numerous contributions. He served as a professor of Physical Education, Lacrosse Coach, Director of Recreation (which included Star Lake Camp Director), Public Relations Director, and retired in the capacity of Chairman of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. In 1984, Chip was awarded the SUNYAC Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Among the many recognitions received over the years for his dedication and service (including being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004), Chip found the greatest satisfaction making a difference in the lives of his student athletes.\n \nShortly after moving to the North Country, Chip co-founded the New York State Outdoor Education Association and served as its second president. His passion for the outdoors and athletics carried into his personal life with the creation of “Grandpa’s Camp” for his 9 young grandchildren. Chip also loved the game of golf. He was an active member of the Potsdam Country Club where he won many club championships and served as its President from 1979 to 1982. Unknown to many was the influence of his doctoral dissertation awarded by Springfield College in 1971 on “the sequence of hip and selected upper-extremity joint movements during the golf drive.”\n \nFor 50 years, Chip and his loving wife of 67 years, Rosalie, called Potsdam home. In keeping with his strong sense of community, Chip served on the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, volunteered at Potsdam Helping Hands, and was a member of the Potsdam Rotary Club and a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church. A new place to call “home” for the last decade became Raleigh, NC, where he loved to “work in his shop” and play bridge with his friends at Magnolia Glen.\n \nChip is survived by his wife, Rosalie, and his four children; Gabriel (and Harvey) Miller, Nancy (and Thomas) Denney , Elizabeth Price, and Barbara (and James) Collins, along with 9 grandchildren; Patrick Quinn, Zachary (and Lauren) Price, Jennifer (and Spencer) Jones, Joshua Price, Hannah (and Bradley) Dilday, Brittany (and Jacob) Kopech, Jake (and Emma Loughman) Denney, Kaitlin Denney, Nicole (and Luke) Villamaria. Chip is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, his sister Sue McCrary and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three sisters: Dorothy Goldsmith, Helen Rathje and Virginia Norklun.\n \nThis man of great integrity, courage and conviction will be remembered as a kind human being, patient father, loving husband, family man, passionate educator, and inspiring coach.\n \nTo honor Chip’s legacy, donations can be made to: potsdamhelpinghands.org or hospiceofnorthcarolina.org."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/22/2024","age":93,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/b88341543981aa54f504d0c3493ca8fe/object_Object_2a7c242ee5.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"2320c59b-8165-5fed-aab7-e7e94cf2d912","slug":"2024-06-22-Charles-Hunter","name":"Charles Hunter","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/22/2024","age":93,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"f59416ad-93f6-5fcd-9ee3-27b87d2acab6","slug":"2024-06-22-Peggy-Dulaney","name":"Peggy E. Dulaney","content":{"data":{"content":"Peggy Ellis Dulaney, age 78, passed away at her home in Cary, NC on June 22, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Ellis of Greenville, SC. She is survived by her husband Brian; son Ken (Diane) of Cary, NC; daughter Laura Thompson (Greg) of Apex, NC; a brother Ernie Ellis (Sandie) of Columbia, SC; and four grandchildren: Brian, Ben, Ellie, and Josh. \n\nPeggy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was intentional about family gatherings whether it was Sunday dinners or traditional holidays. She always sent cards for birthdays and anniversaries. When the kids were young, she attended so many athletic events and piano recitals. Peggy deeply loved her husband through 57 years of marriage starting when they were both college students and into their golden years of retirement. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren with special trips and treats. \n\nPeggy was blessed to have many roles in life as a wife, mother, nurse, Sunday School teacher and friend. Born in Greenville, SC, she knew early in life that she wanted to be a nurse. So as a teenager, she volunteered as a Candy Striper at Greenville General Hospital. Peggy graduated from Greenville High School in 1963, attended Duke University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1967 from the School of Nursing. She went on to obtain a Masters degree in Nursing from Duke in 1968. \n\nPeggy spent most of her professional career (25 years) working for the Greenville Hospital System (GHS). Prior to that role, she was a nursing instructor at Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia and also at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, NC. For a short time, she was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, NC. Some of her roles at GHS included Director of Nursing at Marshall Pickens Psychiatric Hospital, Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Director of Care Management. She retired in 1999 and started her own business as an educator and nursing consultant. \n\nAmong her many professional activities, she was a member and past president of the South Carolina Nurses Association, founding member and past president of the International Society of Psychiatric Consultation Liaison Nurses, and member of the Nursing Advisory Boards of Clemson University and Greenville Technical College. She was listed in Who’s Who in American Nursing in 1986 and 1988. She received the President's Award for Outstanding Service to SCNA in 1987 and 1996. She authored or co-authored numerous articles published in local, regional, or national nursing journals. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau the International Honor Society for Nurses. \n\nAt the community level, Peggy was very active at Bethesda United Methodist Church for over 40 years as an adult Sunday School Teacher and Parish Nurse. She organized Health Fairs, was active in multiple bible study groups, and was a long time member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Nursing Advisory Board for the American Red Cross. \n\nPeggy loved to travel and to ride her bike on greenways. She rode the Doodle Trail and Swamp Rabbit Trail in South Carolina with family and friends many times. She also rode down Pikes Peak in Colorado and Mount Haleakala in Hawaii. She went canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas and tubing on the Salt River in Arizona. Her favorite rail trail was the Virginia Creeper in Southwestern Virginia. After retirement, she and Brian were able to fulfill a lifelong dream and travel to Switzerland. They saw the Matterhorn, rode the Glacier Express train, and ate Swiss Fondue. \n\nOur Peggy had a remarkable life and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. There will be a Celebration of Life at Bethesda United Methodist Church (516 Piedmont Rd., Easley, SC) on July 12 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the South Carolina Nurses Foundation (scnursesfoundation.org) and to the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses Foundation (ispn-psych.org/foundation). Internment will be at a later date at Flatwoods Cemetery in Flatwoods, West Virginia.\n\nFor additional information or for service details, please reach out to the family directly."}},"city":"Cary","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"06/22/2024","age":78,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/bb39bd2e7a75a811efc8e392a45000f5/object_Object_e389069c8a.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"fbcbad28-bb13-5a45-842a-ad0a5ed11e04","slug":"2024-06-22-Gary-Black","name":"Gary Black","content":{"data":{"content":"Gary Black, 75, of Raleigh, NC died on Saturday, June 22nd.\n\nHe grew up in Columbia Station, Ohio.
