There she met and married Ray Kissell and they were together for 63 years until his death in 2010.\nShe was an integral part of the lives of her 3 kids, her neighbors and her many siblings. She was also active at Longview Baptist Church, as a charter member, until her health declined just a few years ago. Even in her final years, she was generous to those needing a hand, including family and friends on North King Charles Rd.\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and her daughter Angela Hodge. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Lynch (David) of Timberlake, NC, her son Alan (Barbie) of Bend, OR and Ann’s husband, Don Hodge of Raleigh. She has 4 grandchildren (Christina Sendall of Raleigh, Christopher Lynch of Timberlake, Carrie Kissell of New York, and Katie Banuelos of Portland, OR.) She also had 6 great-grandchildren: Anna and Emily Sendall, Abby and Bryson Lynch and Archie and Ollie Banuelos.\nA graveside service will be held at Montlawn Cemetery on Wednesday, July 10th at 12 noon. Upon retirement she was able to thoroughly enjoy her gardening hobby and role of Nana to her six grandchildren Cosette, Nevaeh, Zachary, Madeleine, Myles and Zoa.\n\nSurviving her are her three daughters, Megan Stangl & husband Lucas, Rachelle Messer & husband Logan, and Victoria Chryst-Cardona & husband Charles. Also surviving her are her three siblings, Kevin Street, Keith Street & wife Nicolette, and Kelly Schwuchow & husband Michael, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.\n\nIn addition to her parents and husband, Karen is preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Dwayne and Marjorie Chryst.\n\nKaren's Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Oxford Presbyterian Church in Oxford, NC with Alan Koeneke officiating. Daniel lost his courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia on July 3, 2024, at 3:33 p.m. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  \n\nHe leaves behind his wife of (almost) 25 years, Stephanie Grodem, who will forever hold him in her heart as an irreplaceable presence. \n\nHe was a devoted father and grandfather and left behind children Sarah Shearman (James) and grandchildren Lillyanna, Alasdair, and Artemis; Austin Braswell (Marissa) and grandchildren River and Summer; Nickelous Braswell and grandson Bentley; Dainiel Grodem, Kyle Grodem (Sabrina) and grandson on the way, Roland.\n\nDaniel is also survived by his sister, Deana Matuch (Gregory), and their children, Alexander and Nicholas; his brother-in-law and best friend, Jonathan Piper; and his children, Victoria, Hayleigh, and Zane. Many other extended family members, friends, and pets will feel his absence. \n\nDaniel was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Grodem and Dane Grodem. \n\nDaniel lived a meaningful life centered around his family. He enjoyed spending time with family by sharing his love of the outdoors, hiking, or just walking and enjoying nature. He enjoyed family game night when not spending time with his family outdoors. When not with family, he could be found in a quiet room reading a book, or at his computer playing a game. \n\nHe will be remembered for his unwavering strength, hard work, competitive nature, and sense of humor. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.\n\nA private viewing will be held in honor of Daniel's life at City of Oaks Cremation.
