She was 98. \n\nKit was born in Pittsburgh, PA, where she and younger brother Bill were raised by their parents, Francis and Catherine McFarlin.  She spent her teen years working in her disabled Father’s restaurant, McFarlin’s Grill, as World War II raged.\n\nAfter the war, she attended Seton Hill College where she earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology.  She received a full scholarship to Catholic University where she continued her studies in Psychology and earned her master’s degree.  It was at Catholic University where she met her first husband, Ernest Galdi, who also attended Catholic University after returning from his tour of duty in the Army.\n\nKit applied her education working as a school psychologist in the public-school systems in both Prince Georges County and Calvert County, Maryland.  At the same time, she raised six children of her own in Oxon Hill, Maryland.\n\nWhen she retired, she found herself restless and needing to give back, having been taught about service to others by the nuns her entire life.  She spent time in the Washington, DC, area counseling for the Alexandria mental health clinic, cooking dinners at the Christ House Homeless Center in DC, serving on the Board of the DC Geriatric Day Care Center, and preparing sunrise breakfasts for the homeless at the DC Epiphany Church.  She also took a position teaching parenting skills to recovering drug addicted moms at a rehab facility.\n\nIn her retirement, she found time for herself and took great joy in traveling the world with her husband Ernie, until his passing. As she continued her travels solo, she met Claus Wolf, with whom she continued to travel, and eventually married.  She took up writing and painting during retirement and left behind a collection of impressive works in both areas.\n\nKit was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, Brother Bill, son-in-law Doug Robinson, and beloved Grandsons Chris Galdi and Alex Wilson. (Randy) Starck\nApex, NC\nAge 64 — Died 08/01/2024\n\nGarrick (Randy) Starck passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 1, 2024, after a long battle with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. His wife, Lisa, and daughters, Sarah and Rachel, were by his side.\n\nRandy was born on October 11, 1959, to Jack and Astor Starck in Hollywood, Florida. The family moved to Raleigh, NC, when Randy was 7 years old. He attended Broughton High School, and after graduating, he served four years in the United States Air Force. During his time in the USAF, he was stationed at Charleston, SC, where he served as crew chief on a C-141 Starlifter. After the USAF, he attended Wake Technical Community College and received his degree in Computer Technology. He went on to build a career in the field of engineering.\n\nRandy was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, biking and hiking. His favorite outdoor activity was going to the mountains and hiking one of the many beautiful trails. He had many hobbies, his favorite being building and flying remote control airplanes. He had a great love for planes from the time he was a young boy. He was also a big World War II buff. He loved a good black and white WWII movie or book, and his favorite WWII plane was the Spitfire.\n\nRandy also loved spending time with his family and dogs. Although he had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling with work, there was no place he loved more than home. Being at home with his family and his dogs was his happiness and joy.\n\nRandy was preceded in death by his mother Astor Mae Starck in 2014. She was preceded in death by her Daughter Sonja Lanette Davis and son Christopher Hall Davis.\n\nSharon was born in Richmond County on December 15th 1948. She was the daughter of the late Naomi O. Monroe and Jack B West. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School, class of 1967. Sharon worked in the insurance business for years and later retired from the Richmond County Health Department. Sharon loved her family tremendously and was a strong believer in Christ. She was an active member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with other believers and loved her family and friends to the fullest. She has been a fierce warrior through many difficult times throughout her life and always found her strength in Jesus Christ. \n\nShe is survived by her son, Scott Davis of Caswell Beach, NC.  Grandsons; Seth Davis currently serving in the United States Air Force overseas.  Ben Cole of Myrtle Beach, SC. Trey Stewart  (Amanda) and one great granddaughter Ruby Stewart of Smithfield, NC. She is also survived by her sister Debbie Higby Williams (Donnie) of Rockingham. She leaves behind two dearest friends; Patricia Terry and Kitty Winchester. \n\nA memorial service to celebrate her life will be at Southside Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday August 3rd at 12:00 pm with  Pastor Stephen Ashby and Thad Jacobs officiating. She was born to the late Mark Edward Richardson and Mary Louise Blair in Danville, Virginia. Franny grew up in Danville, Va. and during her years there, she attended West Main Street United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Stratford College.\n\nFranny is survived by her daughter, Blair Griffith Walter (John May) and son, William Patterson Griffith, Jr.; grandchildren Hattie Blair Walter Steffens (Matt), Peter Douglas Walter, and Samuel Richardson Walter (Ruth Hudson); great-grandchildren Frances, Sebastian, and Tallulah Steffens; and Jane May Walter (who will arrive in two weeks). She is also survived by brother-in-law Rodney Taylor; nieces Tamara Oakey, Teresa Ferguson, and Helen Harrison; and her lifelong friend Charlye Phillips.\nShe is predeceased by her only sister, Mary Louise Richardson Ruggles.\n\nFran was an active member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church for decades. She was a Stephen Minister for many years and participated in the Emmaus Walk. She was a participant in Bible Study for 10 years, and was an active member of the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women, delivered Meals on Wheels and loved Christmas in April.\n\nFran had a quick wit, was lots of fun, and had a huge heart. She was known as a poet among the friends who received birthday poems that always started with  “Roses are red, violets are blue….” She adored her children and grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren. \n\nShe had a magic touch that captivated the hearts of so many, especially in her job as a teacher at the Montessori School at SAS. Many of her students stayed in touch with Fran long after they’d moved away.\n\nA celebration of Fran’s life will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church: 2209 Fairview Road, Raleigh, NC 27608, followed by a visitation reception in the Fellowship Hall.\n\nArrangements are being handled by the City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremations. Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Flanner Hamilton; his children, Kristy-Ann Joyce (Sean) of Mocksville, NC; Tyler K Hamilton (Angela) of Fuquay Varina, NC and Shannon S Hamilton (Elizabeth) of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Betsy Prewitt of Leicester, NC; and grandchildren: Henry Hamilton, Roy Hamilton, Peyton Hamilton, Halle Joyce and Kady Joyce, and numerous nieces and nephews.\n\nRobert’s first job was as a bagboy for Winn Dixie. From there he moved up into the Information Technology field installing the office computers and associated wiring. He ended this career after 37 years when Winn Dixie moved their headquarters to Florida. Upon closing of the stores in the Carolinas and surrounding states, he worked at First Citizens also in the IT field. The last of his retirement years were spent working part time in Home Depot in Garner for over 6+ years. \n\nIn his spare time he loved to go fishing in his boat at the North Carolina coast. He also loved Nascar, and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.\nHe was happy tending to his yard and a small garden, and loved tinkering in his shop; often helping neighbors and with their lawn mowers, blowers or chain saws.  \nRobert was proud to be a friend of Bill’s. He loved each one of his brothers and sisters, and worked diligently to help them every day. He had 16 years of sobriety.\n\nA Celebration of Life will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC on August 10, 2024 at 11AM. Please dress in casual attire.
