She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh (Grump) and Dorothy (Mrs. G) Gilmore, sister Anne Gilmore Bradford Knight, and niece Beth Bradford Davis.\n\nVickie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Larry Presnell, daughter Megan Presnell, son-in-law JD Anderson, and the light of her life, grandchildren Amelia and Jack Finn and her granddog Rocky. As well as by her nieces Karen Petersen Axford, Jennifer Bradford Telles and nephews Tommy Bradford Junior, and Brian Petersen. She is also survived by her great nieces Brawley Davis, Dottie Davis, Eleanor Davis, Berklee Axford, and Kelsee Axford as well as her great nephew Drake Davis.\n\nVickie attended Meredith College while Larry attended NC State. Larry’s need for a date and Vickie’s need for a ride home to Fayetteville led to a courtship that resulted in marriage in their junior year that lasted 54 years. That is when Vickie’s love for NC State athletics began. She loved all State athletics, but especially football, basketball, baseball and wrestling, having attended a multitude of games.\n\nVickie’s career began as a secretary at Fort Bragg and progressed to being a Contracting Officer with the Department of the Army in St. Louis, MO and Edgewood, MD and then a Project Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency Office of Air Quality at Research Triangle Park. After her retirement in 2006 she began volunteering with The Flower Shuttle serving as President among other duties.\n\nVickie loved spending time in Avon on Hatteras Island. She enjoyed sitting on the beach for hours at ramp 38, watching the people at The Point, taking the grandchildren to ramp 49, parking on ramp 55 with a hot cup of soup from Village Red and White on a cold winter’s day while watching the ocean, taking her bicycle to Ocracoke, and walking on the beach everywhere.\n\nAll that paled in comparison to the joy she felt playing with her grandchildren Amelia and Jack Finn. When it came time to make the tough decisions about her healthcare, she chose quantity of time rather than quality of life, so that she could spend more time with her grandchildren.\n\nVickie was an avid bridge player from the time her mother taught her as a young girl until recently. She played regularly with her friends from high school and the two bridge clubs that she belonged to.\n\nVickie was a true southern lady. She liked everyone and everyone liked her. The nurses in the chemotherapy infusion room looked forward to Vickie’s appointments as they said she brightened up the room. And that is a tough room to brighten.\n\nIn accordance with her wishes, there will not be a funeral service but instead there will be a celebration of life in the near future."}},"city":"Raleigh","county":"Wake","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"08/18/2024","age":74,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/1b2a6786bab1fa4a3aa8eda2273affc1/object_Object_e711f7e2dc.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"e092031f-49bb-5c30-9b1a-c7443912bcac","slug":"article-475","name":"Robert Umstead Tackett","content":{"data":{"content":""}},"city":"Durham","county":"Durham","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"08/17/2024","age":69,"user_updated":false,"image":null}},{"node":{"id":"6720b4ea-1875-55c4-baff-83460460bbe2","slug":"article-476","name":"Arthur Allen Duncil","content":{"data":{"content":"Arthur “Allen” Duncil of Raleigh, NC, passed away on August 17th, at WakeMed Hospital after a brief illness.\n\nAllen was born on December 26, 1944, in Morgantown, WV, where he attended Morgantown High School and was active in the boy scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. She graduated in 1975 with a degree in Physical Therapy and started her first job at Wake Baptist Hospital as a Physical Therapist. Brenda continued serving patients in Raleigh, Fayetteville, Edenton and Elizabeth City for forty-five years until retiring in 2020. She often said, “I love what I do, and I know it’s where God wanted me”.\n\nBrenda was a caregiver, servant and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She cared for her husband after illness, both aging parents, children into adulthood and various neighbors with differing needs. Every trouble met with compassion, gentleness and prayer. She served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, academic tutor, SPCA volunteer, neighborhood babysitter, shared Bible studies around the kitchen table with\nwomen in the community and cared deeply for her pets. Most notably, Brenda loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She studied His word daily and eagerly testified - He is the way, the truth and the life. Twice married, she went by Jessica Dumont and later, Jesse Petry. She passed away in the evening of August 16. Jesse fought bravely against cancer never wanting to give up and always seeking to be reunited with her cherished daughter, Trinity Dumont, formerly of Dover, NH.\n\nJesse was born October 25, 1983, in Newburyport, Ma. She was raised on the North Shore and has ties to Haverhill, Ma, Rochester, NH and Clinton, NC. Growing up, Jesse played softball and sang in chorus. Our family enjoyed watching her perform in a musical lead role in a church production. She was often asked in later years to sing at local events as she was gifted with a beautiful singing voice.\n\nJesse could be difficult to fully know and had a tendency to withdraw when she felt overwhelmed. Sometimes, she missed knowing how important she was to her family. Throughout her life, she befriended the broken people who she felt were in some way without and she could be very kind-hearted and offer the warmth of her friendship. Some kids bring home pets; Jesse brought home people. She shared what she had to give.\n\nAs an adult, she was publicly baptized in the Christian faith in a backyard swimming pool. She was known to enjoy singing Amazing Grace until the windows rattled. In recent years she struggled with her faith and explored other practices to answer her questions about life. As she succumbed to her illness, she listened to the promises of God, and we believe she was mercifully called home to be with the Lord. Her last thoughts were always of her own dear daughter.\n\nJesse enjoyed movies, music, hiking, rollercoasters, swimming and long drives with the radio cranked. Unable to sing in her last days, she instead delighted in tapping her fingers and swinging her head and hands to Love Shack, Sweet Caroline, Rockin' Robin, and anything by Ray Charles or Satchmo.\n\nJesse was well loved by her mother, Julie Beauvais of Haverhill, Ma, her father, Michael Syvinski, stepmother, Rhonda of Rochester, NH, her sister Starsia Beauvais of Amesbury, Ma, brothers Justin (Ashley), Keith (Priscilla), and sister, Brianna, grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.\n\nThe family would like to thank Duke Health for their amazing care and dedication."}},"city":"Clinton","county":"Sampson","state":"North Carolina","deathdate":"08/16/2024","age":40,"user_updated":true,"image":{"localFile":{"publicURL":"/static/c238f01d3d0fc144d373996f76648d92/object_Object_146d4cd7bb.jpeg"}}}},{"node":{"id":"fa4d904f-e44f-5f3d-9524-f3d12f3460a2","slug":"2024-08-16-Carmen-Figueroa","name":"Carmen Figueroa","content":{"data":{"content":"Carmen Figueroa, 93, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 16, 2024.
