What mattered to him were his dogs, his daughter Jordan and his grandchildren Kevin Brock (K.J.) Chloe and Kaydee. Kevin loved fast cars, loud music and a good time, he found great joy sitting in his recliner. Everything he tried he seemed to master. He was born in Portsmouth, VA as a youth he excelled in baseball and bowling winning many trophies he was ranked the top youth bowler on the east coast. He was a rebel rocker teen who when faced with adversity made a life changing decision to join the US Navy at 17 years old. He got an education and saw the world all before the age of 20. Later, he went on to successfully complete a 40 year paper mill career which made him absolutely estatic because he knew Pop (Wayne Jordan) would be proud he too had accomplished the same and retired. Marriage was never really his thing so he was content to be with his family and dogs. Kevin would make you laugh and he loved to talk smack however he had a heart of gold. Just know Kevin lived a full life, he had a 40 year career, owned his dream car and saw his favorite bands in their heyday. He loved his family, Boston Terriers, rock music, fast cars and food. Kevin has many family and friends he has left behind to cherish the memories they made with him. In his last months Kevin accepted Jesus as his personal savior and passed peacefully into his arms. He was born July 15, 1954 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Anne and John DeCamp, Sr.\n\nHe is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Tina, his sons John (Trey) Randall DeCamp, III (wife Ashley), and Michael Christopher DeCamp (wife Erin), three grandchildren Dylan, Lucy, and Leo, his brother Arthur DeCamp (wife Sharon), and a little dog named Dice.\n\nAfter graduating from Harrison High School in Tippecanoe County, Indiana in 1972, John continued his education at Purdue University where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 1977. It’s here he met the love of his life, Tina, in his senior year through a very early version of computer dating. What was simply a fun promotion to help raise money for a fraternity turned into the origin of his happily ever after. After only six months of dating, they were married on June 25th, 1977.\n\nJohn worked as a manufacturing engineer for Motorola from 1983-2000. When some of his co-workers decided to branch out and start their own company, he took a chance and joined them at their new business, US Monolithics. It was eventually bought by Viasat, and he finished his career there in 2019. He very much loved his co-workers and they loved him in return.\n\nIn the fall of 1983, John and Tina moved to Mesa, Arizona where they lived for 36 years and built their family. In 1984, they welcomed their first child, Trey, which began the start of many children’s parties, including birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, pool days, etc., entertaining the neighbor kids to no end. In addition to welcoming their second child in ‘87, Michael, he could be found coaching his sons’ sports teams, encouraging musical pursuits, and helping build sets, costumes, and whatever else needed doing for their theater plays. Despite being a dedicated hard worker, he was always present and engaged with his family.\n\nHe loved to do yard work, hike, run, and play basketball with his kids and co-workers. He loved to fix things, and could repair just about anything. As a result, he loved helping anyone and everyone fix things such as cars or household items. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed annual camping trips with several families where he’d unplug from society, hike, kayak, chase Elk, play horseshoes, roast marshmallows, or just relax by the lake. He was a proud Corvette owner and a member of the Corvette club, but his slightly more modest Mazda Miata ‘00 was his favorite vehicle. He drove it every day to work for nearly 20 years. He loved driving with the top down. His work was close to home, and he would often drive home at lunchtime to share a sandwich with his wife. He was an avid blood donor. He taught his kids how to shoot and practice gun safety. In his kids’ teen years, he owned a boat and would take the family out weekly year round for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Even in the winter months, you could still find him on a pair of skis wearing his wetsuit on a glassy morning at Saguaro Lake. \n\nHe went on several trips around the world, many with the family, some with his wife Tina, and a few work trips by himself. His and Tina’s favorites were in Hawaii where they loved to snorkel and observe marine life. Of their favorite family trips, twice they enjoyed renting a houseboat on Lake Powell with extended family. John and his cousin Joe, the co-captain of the trips, would muse about the rental price of the houseboat and would joke with their kids saying, “You better enjoy it, cuz it’s a dollar a minute!” Routinely through the trip, one of them would smirk and say, “Dollar a minute!” They towed John’s ski boat behind the houseboat, and at one point in the excursion, the ski boat got separated from the houseboat, and in hilarious fashion they had to figure out how to retrieve it.\n\nAmong his most treasured accomplishments, John was most passionate about helping his son Michael build his acting career and his son Trey a music career. He prided himself on being the band manager and music producer for not one but two of his sons’ rock bands, Synoptic and Idle Red, the latter of which his son Michael would join as the drummer. He worked tirelessly to help his sons pursue their dreams!\n\nAfter retiring in 2019, He and Tina moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to be near their three adorable grandchildren. They purchased a house down the street in a beautiful neighborhood called Bedford. Their son Michael describes it as being like a neighborhood from a classic Steven Spielberg movie. He would not be far off as Bedford is actually based on the Christmas classic “It’s A Wonderful Life.”\n\nIf you asked anyone that knew John, they would describe him as kind, honest, ethical, fair, unbiased, encouraging, faithful, exceedingly helpful, intelligent, caring, selfless, and so much more. He was very much a salt of the Earth type person.\n\nPerhaps most importantly, he was very proud of the fact that he only ever loved one woman, his dearest wife Tina.\n\nUnfortunately, Alzheimer’s gave him a difficult and unfair ending, but he would say he still lived a full life worth living and accomplished many, if not all, the things he wanted to do. His limitless kindness lives on through his family.\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to a charity of your choice or to the Alzheimer's Association.\n\nJohn's Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday May 10, 2025 @ 2pm. He was the youngest child born into the military family of Lt Col Gregory Norton Garcia and Arcadia Garcia. He was the grandson of Gould Gregory Norton of the First United States Volunteer Cavalry who fought as one of Teddy Roosevelt’s “Roughriders” during the Spanish American War. After the war, Trooper Norton became a prominent citrus grower in Florida, Arizona and Cuba.\n\nAlways the adventurer, Greg’s early life included roaming the Germany country side in the immediate aftermath of WW II. His vivid memories of those time were a living history lesson later in life. Greg would share stories while his father was stationed at the Pentagon of sledding down the hills of Arlington National Cemetery with his sister, and, always one for service, using his mother’s broom to sweep the leaves from the Lincoln Memorial. Not one for the structure of the classroom, he left school in the 10th grade and at age 17 he enlisted in the Air Force on the advice of his older brother Edward. Greg’s eight years of active service began with him as an Air Policeman with tours in Germany, Alaska, Florida and Montana. He later crosstrained into Education and Training. One of his favorite memories from his service was meeting up with his brother Michael in Thailand during the Vietnam War. His service to his country continued in civilian life. While posted at Keesler AFB, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary performing hundreds of hours of service to the community, rising to the rank of Flotilla Staff Officer and was a founding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.\n\nGreg had an overwhelming thirst for, and expansive knowledge. His desire for education and knowledge was a driving force in him securing his GED. That springboarded him to earning his Bachelor’s degree, two Master’s degrees (University of Massachusetts and University of Southern Mississippi) and culminated in a Doctorate from Montana State University. Greg also attended post-graduate training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He used this education and experience as an Education Services Officer with the Air Force, ensuring that service members had access to quality educational opportunities.\n\nFollowing retirement after 30 years of civil service in the Department of Defense, Greg taught public administration, and political science at Tulane University and the University of Southern Mississippi. He moved on from teaching and became the Dean, Military Programs at Grantham University before transferring to a like position at Park University. While a recipient of multiple accolades, he was most proud of being honored with a Lifetime Service Award from worldwide adult educators and a special service award from the Community College of the Air Force.\n\nGreg would help anyone and was generous with his time leading Scouting troops and activities, teaching adult Sunday School, and being an active member of his community. He earned his private pilots license in Alaska, taught himself to sail in the waters of Tampa Bay, but his favorite activity was travelling in the camper with his grandchildren. He believed in spreading love, joy and kindness. His big smile and humorous personality will be so missed by many.\nGreg is predeceased by his parents, his older brother Edward and sister Miriam, He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marcia Hawbaker. His son Gregory Christian (Sarah Rogers), and four beautiful grandchildren: Katherine Arcadia Hinson (Anson Hinson), Marshall Christian Garcia, U.S. Navy, his youngest granddaughters, DeLaney Ella and Josephine Pauline.
