Brunssen","content":{"data":{"content":"Fritz H.H. Brunssen, 75, passed away on October 20, 2021, at Transitions Hospice, Raleigh, NC.  He was born in Strohausersiel, Rodenkirchen, Germany on February 6, 1946, to the late Fritz and Luise Brunssen. The family immigrated to Woonsocket, South Dakota in 1953, where he enjoyed the company of his horse, Brownie.  Fritz was certified as an Eagle Scout. He obtained a BS in Civil Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and subsequently attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Corp of Engineers (1969-72).  \n\nMr. Brunssen was awarded his MBA from the University of Alabama Birmingham. He established a consulting engineering firm that served the Triangle area for 34 years.  He was an accomplished carpenter, personally designing and building the family home in Durham, NC. \n\nFritz was a longtime supporter of Holy Infant Catholic Church and enjoyed time spent with his fellow members of Iron Sharpens Iron, a theological study group at St. Thomas More in Chapel Hill, NC.  He enjoyed scuba trips and membership in the PADI dive club.\n\nFritz was the loving husband of Susan Howell Brunssen with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, daughters Katrina “Katie” Morris (Sammy) of Raleigh, NC, and Regina “Gin” Burchfield (Eric) of Cary, NC, and grandchildren Carly, Hannah, Ethan, Alana, and Annelena, and his older brother, Hildebrand Brunssen of New Mexico.\n\nHis memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 1:00 pm at Holy Infant Catholic Church, 5000 Southpark Drive, Durham, NC 27713.  Visitation with the family precedes the service from 12:15 – 12:45 pm. The service will be livestreamed: https://holyinfantchurch.org/sunday-mass-livestream. \n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Luise Brunssen Memorial Scholarship Fund at CARA, 330 E. Ethan was a graduate of Eastern Guilford High School and attended Virginia Tech.\n\nEthan had a memorable laugh, an unforgettable smile, a kind spirit, and was known by all for his sense of humor. He was an avid soccer and golf player and never passed up an opportunity to travel with family and friends. Many new friends and memories were made through trips to his favorite destination, Mexico.\n\nEthan did his best to live life to the fullest and always rolled with the punches and fought hard despite his diagnosis of Thymic Carcinoma in 2014. He was a warrior through his battle and was an inspiration to all who met him. \n\nEthan is survived by his wife, Tia, parents, Frans, and Cheryl, mother in law, Angela, sister, Jocelyn, and niece Victoria as well as numerous beloved uncles and cousins who he loved very much. He was proceeded in death by his brother Robert Miller, and his long time girlfriend Honor Barber. He had a deep appreciation for beauty, music, philosophy, and the small peaceful moments in life. He loved classical music, drawing, coffee, quiet conversations, and creating beauty with his hands. Those who knew him remember his dry wit, kind heart, and unmistakable long red hair and his gentle green eyes.\n\nAs a teenager, Jacob discovered a passion for hairstyling and dedicated himself fully to mastering his craft. He worked tirelessly to earn his cosmetology license, spending years building experience and honing his skills. Shortly before his passing, he achieved his dream of working in a high-end hair salon, a milestone he was deeply proud of and had worked incredibly hard to reach. Jacob loved helping people look beautiful and  feel good about themselves, and he saw beauty where others often overlooked it. He was known among coworkers and clients alike for his kindness, generosity, quiet humor, and gentle nature.\n\nJacob shared a special closeness with his family through long conversations, humor, music, creativity, and time spent together over coffee or preparing his favorite vegan foods in the kitchen.\n\nJacob’s life, though heartbreakingly brief, carried depth, sensitivity, intelligence, and love.
