Obituary
Richard Raymond Little

Fuquay Varina, North Carolina

Age 79.
Died 02/21/2026.

Richard Raymond Little
Richard Raymond Little, 79, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, passed away on February 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a life defined by love, loyalty, and quiet strength. Born on May 21, 1946, Richard was a devoted father and grandfather, a steady source of strength, and a man whose quiet generosity touched everyone who knew him. He proudly served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist Fifth Class (SP/5) as a Huey gunship crew chief. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with a “V” device and six Oak Leaf Clusters, and Flight Wings.

In 1968, began his career with the Suffolk County, New York Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Detective Sergeant before retiring in 1992. That same year, he moved to Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and worked as a private investigator for 15 years, retiring again in 2007. Richard spent his life working hard, caring deeply, and showing up for others without ever seeking recognition. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a story, or simply being present, he made people feel supported and valued. He always looked out for everyone. His strong work ethic, patience, and ability to remain grounded through life’s challenges shaped all who knew him. He taught by example—to be honest, to work hard, to treat people with respect, and to face each day with resilience.

He is survived by his three daughters and their spouses; Kim Thompson (Don), Kerri Rogers (Todd), and Molly Little; as well as his six grandchildren: Chandler, Caitlin, Adam, Grant, Finley, and Rhett. His brother Roy Little. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Roy V. and Winifred Little and his sister-in-law Myra Little, whose love shaped his life.

We will forever carry his love, lessons, and spirit forward, remembering his laughter, his guidance, and the way he made even ordinary days meaningful. His memory will continue to guide and comfort all who loved him.

A service for Richard will be at Salisbury National Cemetery, with a celebration of life on May 23rd, 2026.

icon
Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$6081.48

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

icon
Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Alkaline Hydrolysis

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home offers Alkaline Hydrolysis. The Alkaline Hydrolysis process uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
